I used to love doing that, watching crazy films out of your box on acid, but now I'm a responsible father:winkwink:
Any film that's not got a linear plot and seems like lots of random stuff happening would be good in my humble opinion. Naked Lunch - definitely. Helps if you've read the book (as with most book to film conversions) and if you know about William Burroughs life. Requiem for a Dream - I watched that stone cold sober and came out of the cinema shell shocked, dunno how freaky that'd be on drugs. Fantasia - yes the Walt Disney film. Might not freak you out but me and my mates found it hillarious on acid. Jacobs Ladder Dust Devil - a little known art house film Baraka - again might not freak you out (like a nature film set to music) but a lovely thing to watch while tripping :thumbsup Very Bad Things Apocalypse Now - crazy film when sober, so fun when tripping 2001 - i used to hallucentate when i was a kid and i had the flu, and i saw the last part of this film in one of those states when i was maybe 5 or 6. Needless to say it has made a lasting impression on me!! :winkwink: :thumbsup Donnie Darko Cheech and Chong - Up In Smoke I'm sure there are quite a few more I've seen, but they have slipped my mind at the moment..(nothing to do with intensive drug use in a former life) Enjoy!! I. |
fear and loathing in las vegas - the best!
Depp rules! :) |
Clockwork Orange needs to be on this list somewhere...
|
Mulholland Drive
|
Really, if you haven't seen Mulholland Drive yet, you just gotta rent the movie.

Requiem for a Dream is probably the most fucked movie i've ever seen. That movie will make you feel the whole spectrum of emotions. All i have to say is "ass to ass" ps. Once you are done with Fear and Loathing you should read "Hell's Angles", it's about HST hangling out with the Hell's Angles, it is a really interesting read as well. Oh and if you liked Fight Club you should read some of Chuck Palahniuk's books too because he has a really interesting and fucked up way of writing and developing a story. I read Survivor a little while ago, i couldn't put it down. Anyways, thats my :2 cents: |
There's a good old one called "the trip" with Peter Fonda. It's about a commercial director going through a bitter divorce, so he decides to take an LSD trip.
It's not bad. |

For the Hunter Thompson and William Burroughs fans (Naked Lunch)
From my media room. http://linkification.com/linked/wii/IMG_0355.JPG Art by Ralph Steadman. Silkscreen of Burroughs and a bullseye. Burroughs dressed in his khaki battle fatigues and shot at it in 1995. You can see the bullet holes. "Lost Chapter" (Hunter betting on horse races) by Steadman. I have some others. |
Permanent Midnight

Almost anything from Adult Swim: "Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law", "Sealab 2021" and "Frisky Dingo" fucking old timers.

Brazil, yeah that one is fucking out there.

Anything by Quentin Tarantino or David Lynch, including the Four Rooms.
Also, try and find "Until the End of the World" (one of my favorite movies ever). The commercially released version was nearly 3 hours long, but the Director's Cut (which I have not seen yet) is five hours long. Lair of the White Worm is pretty trippy. Although it is quite sad, the visuals and story in What Dreams May Come are powerful. For costuming, sets, etc. I really liked Bram Stoker's Dracula (by Coppola), and Interview with the Vampire. Another lesser known but interesting Coppola film is Mishima. Being John Malkovich will twist you up pretty good too... Finally, if you have never seen it, check out Koyaanisqatsi - Life Out of Balance. It contains no dialogue or narrative - but it will take you on an incredible visual and musical trip (music courtesy of Philip Glass), and you will find new meanings in it every time. In the mid-80's I hired HST to do a lecture at my college campus - it was a huge hit and I was able to get helf a dozen books autographed. In the late 90's, I attended a lecture by Steadman about wine, followed by a special post-lecture dinner and wine tasting with Ralph Steadman. He had just released a book titled "The Grapes of Ralph". http://www.fourfiveone.com/oldtownbo...of%20ralph.jpg What was really cool is that he autographed the book by dipping his finger in wine and then used his finger to pen his signature. One of my favorite autographed editions. ADG Webmaster |
