Each agency grades different for the same thing.

However if you are speaking of a item that was either late or went to collections. Paid in full is better than a settlement.

Stupid question..

What do you think??

Think about it......

You might as well have a full charge-off on the report...Settled for less then amount due is VERY frowned upon.

My Fiancee is a bill collector

She says once you've defaulted to R9 there's no recovering the status. Paying an account in full may increase your fico score by a few points, however, She'd recommend you save a few bucks and go with the settlement.

How much are you settling for? 25%?

Hit me up if you want more advise

Good point.

ok just went thru cleaning my credit and found out a few very interesting things

but number one a big factor in everything is how old is the debt, the more it ages the less it effects your score and even upon a personal review they really look at the past 18 months for both good or bad.

Now if you are now going thru the process of buying a home right now and not in the next say year or so you have no reason to go nuts over the few points it will hit your credit.

If you are then you have to know that a few points might put you under a lenders score and can mean $1000's of dollars a year extra depending how big your home loan is in interest.

Here is something that many dont know if you have a credit card that doesnt report limits because either a) it has no preset limit aka the amex black or b) its a capitalone that dont report limit expect that to hit your score 20 points, capital one is now being sued for that

Thats not true at all. A settlement is viewed just as close to the same as a full chargeoff. Paid in full is just that, paid in full. The points difference is quite a bit different.
