Any Russians Here?? Stolichnay??

I bought a few bottles of 'Stolichnay' on saturday.... it is by far the smoothest vodka I have ever had... It's branded as 'Russian Vodka' and the bottle says it is produced in Russia and bottled in Latvia...

Can anyone from Russia confirm it is really a russian vodka? (I don't really care, it tastes nice and thats all I am bothered about).

Ta.

Buzz 01-15-2007 01:35 PM

"StolichnayA", goddamn, it's spelled "Stolichnaya"

whatever, does it makes you feel better if I say it's really Russian vodka? :pimp

weblinesales 01-15-2007 01:37 PM

Try Putinka, also really good.!!!!

cardinalvices 01-15-2007 01:38 PM

It is Russian. Now put it in the freezer and let it cool 'till 5-10'F. It won't freeze, dont worry. Then drink it. You'll feel cold at first, but then the heat will start spread out from your stomach. :)

Brad 01-15-2007 01:41 PM

i've been drinking "Stoli" for a while now. I am under the assumption that it's russian as well. I can't imagine why they would say it is russian if it's not as there are lots of vodka brands out there doing well that are made outside of russia...Grey Goose, Silent Sam, Absolute, etc. I don't think that there would really be an advantage of saying that it's from somewhere it's not

I would hope that anyone drinking vodka straight would know to put it in the freezer first.

ps...if you get a spray bottle and mist the bottle with water from time to time, it stays colder longer out of the freezer.

Where it comes from does not matter to me at all... Just curious.

You have just answered to your own question. FYI: Latvia is nor Russia.

bizarredollars 01-15-2007 03:51 PM

I can't stand grey goose... and absolut is not an easy drink... I don't often drink vodka but this stuff does go down real easy.

Pickled cucumbers for example or caviar :)

DaddyHalbucks 01-15-2007 06:51 PM

Latvia was part of the Soviet empire.

Redmanthatcould 01-15-2007 09:45 PM

I am Russian, but I have no clue as to the vodka question. After the first few shots, I take a very "all look same" approach anyhow.

fuzebox 01-15-2007 10:39 PM

Stoli is an alright midrange vodka... I sorta put it on the same taste level as Absolut, but lower than Goose/Belvedere/Chopin...

wyldworx 01-15-2007 10:49 PM

Chopin is the greatest for sure!!!
Kinda like the dif between champas and chardonay...
stoli still very nice though, agree that it sits mid range...

_Lush_ 01-15-2007 11:10 PM

Stolis is good

but i want to try chopin it sounds pretty good

Since you can make vodka out of just about anything I really want to try some of the grape distilled vodkas that are coming on the market as well
like ciroc

he-fox 01-15-2007 11:13 PM

Stolichnaya is a good old russian friend of mine:thumbsup

I can sure u, that 'Russkiy standart' is the best russian vodka.
Stolichnaya is typical vodka.

Alky 01-16-2007 03:34 AM

Stoli is a mixed drink vodka, not for shooting or sipping ... my :2 cents:

This is true.
Better buy Russian Standard.

It is difficult to say if the vodka that you bought is the real one.
It must be seen, the bottle, akcisnaya mark (don't know the English equivalent).
But i never saw any alcohol in Russia bottled in Latvia. Very strainge.

The North America was a colony of Great Britain. So what?

I am having an impression that meating each other with vodka in Russia is now in the past.
People drink more of whiskey, cognac or just beer. At least in big cities.
