Why does everyone like Webair so much?

Just wondering. My site or sql database goes down daily. What am I doing wrong? Everyone here seems to think they're great. I haven't seen it.

:helpme

split_joel 01-13-2007 04:32 PM

Hi you can hit me up on icq or aim if you like, I got nothing bad to say about webair and im a competitor. Id be more then happy to take a look at your mysql config and or server load and find out why it crashes for you.

King Adam 01-13-2007 04:34 PM

What did they say when you emailed their support?

sicone 01-13-2007 04:36 PM

sounds like you need some optimization

Don't know about all that .. what I do know is whenever I spoke to someone in CS, English was their 1st language. Roy has used Webair for more than 6 years, and says he has no reasons to change.

I joined up a few days ago and having hassle after hassle this weekend just trying to get some blogs running properly. Never had any issue with previous hosts and WP.

Klen 01-13-2007 05:13 PM

Well who knows maybe data center where is your server is screwed.Or maybe your machine is screwed. In any case check my sig for alternative if you decide to leave :)

DaddyHalbucks 01-13-2007 05:16 PM

Im running over 100 blogs on one of their servers with no problems at all and no probs with mysql either

although i did notice when i did the original transfer of hosts, when i tried to move the blogs that there were issues with the version of mysql that made the old db's unuseable but they sorted that out in under an hour

Violetta 01-13-2007 06:10 PM

I've been with them for 3 years now, and never had any problems. I have lots of sites and lots of db's!

But my favourite thing about them is that if I have a question or something I need done, they fix it within 2-3 mins because of the LIVE SUPPORT! EVERYFUCKING ONE SHOULD HAVE L_I_V_E S_U_P_P_O_R_T like webair!!!!!!

_mC_ 01-13-2007 06:15 PM

It' doesn't matter anymore, I'm done with them. I opened a ticket every single day this week because my site was down. Today they respond with an attitude, "the server was ONLY down for 1 minute". That's fucking horseshit!

My logs show 20 mins where I didn't get a hit, 20 mins my members were ignored and turned away. But it was ONLY down for a minute. That kid should be fired.

So, I'm moving on and officially looking for a new host, if anyone has some recommendations. I want a dedicated windows box that'll run IIS and MsSQL and 1 IP. I'll connect via ftp/pcany.

Miguel T 01-13-2007 06:18 PM

Never used them... so I cant say much.

FetishTom 01-13-2007 06:26 PM

Downtime is a frequent problem with Webair but in GFY world Webair never has a problem and is 100% rock solid...

...except for the legion of customers who do have numerous problems but in GFY world these customers do not officially exist!

Good call on dumping webair but going to IIS? WHY???

I'm an MCSE and even I have to admit that for website hosting, BSD or Linux is the only way to go.

Pete-KT 01-13-2007 06:31 PM

Never had a problem with them, are you on a Dedicated machine or a virtual account? and have you tried using the 24/7 live support? seems to work wonders when i need help

tony286 01-13-2007 06:43 PM

their support works fine for me

_mC_ 01-13-2007 07:28 PM

Service Unavailable for my domains right now, down again. You guys were saying something about never having problems? I wish I had your servers!

spacedog 01-13-2007 07:44 PM

Nothing but problem after problem for me.. I am so glad I left. Not a single problem after switching to something much better.

wow, that shit still happens with them?

damn, I tried them a few years back and had sql errors every day, and when there weren't errors, it was down

I ended up accumulating like 4-6 months worth of free service from their fuck ups, but free service suck when it never works

I hear dedicated boxes are good with them though, but how can a dedicated box not be good if you are on the only on on it? haha

crockett 01-13-2007 08:05 PM

Get a dedicated box with them and host your own mySQL. Don't use that off server shared mySQL database that's just asking for trouble. I have two boxes with them and haven't had any problems once the servers were set up.

Now getting the servers set up took a little time, both times certain things I wanted done, weren't done when the server was handed over. However I kinda figure that kinda stuff is going to happen so it's no biggie. But once they are set up, no problems at all.

So just host your own mySQL on a dedicated box, it's not like they are expensive with them.

_mC_ 01-13-2007 08:05 PM

My first and last experience with shared, that's for sure! :) Thanks all, now somebody tell me who I should try?!

well, I thought the same thing and ended up getting a dedicated somewhere else after my incident, but since that time I have also bought at least 20-30 virtual accounts at hosts all over the web, and not once experience the troubles I had at webair

I never expect much with a virtual account, hell I am paying $10 freakin dollars a month for hosting, LOL, but I do expect to have a working site

i highly suggest hitting up joel above who offered to help pinpoint the problem for you.. it might save you some time. as if the problem exists with you not with webair you will continue to have the same problems with a new host , and even if you dont continue to "notice"a problem it could still exist

Bingo. I also had a WebAir VirtualHost.

It was down every other day. I mean, every other day. Sometimes 16 hours at a time. Eventually, they'd reboot it, and it'd come back for a bit, then it'd be gone. Within 3 months, I had nearly a full 20 days of (non-sequential) uptime. The longest it lasted was 8 days. 8 days!

I attempted to contact Mike (who's ICQ was removed from the site, but was given to me.) He promised to make it right. I gave him 2 months on his word. It never happened.

Gerard did offer me a free month (woohoo, $10!) when I finally canceled, as a wonderful slap in the face (but obviously, he didn't have to do that). I lost MONTHS of revenue.

Splum, a friend of mine, has been with WebAir, and loves their dedicated servers, but man, don't bother if you're a virtualhost.

HorseShit 01-13-2007 09:26 PM

definitely go with http://www.phatservers.com , rock solid hardware and support

fris 01-13-2007 09:27 PM

using a shared mysql server is a mistake

_mC_ 01-13-2007 09:35 PM

Well, maybe I'll just go Dedicated, probably an easier move. Network seems to always be up, just not my servers. :/

BTW, Fris, it's a shared MsSql server, not My...

Zuzana Designs 01-13-2007 09:41 PM

I have had a dedicated box for over 2 years and it has been wonderful .. WEBAIR rocks

509Productions 01-14-2007 12:10 AM

Well, I am sticking with them... They have looked after me with the issues I have had… But if things don’t improve, I’m looking again…

But, maybe they will start to pick there shit a bit more now, knowing there are a lot of unhappy customers out there...

Just one quick note… Yeah, they have 24 hour live support, which every hosting should have… But, that live support is not much help, when the person you are talking does not know much about server issues…

alexg 01-14-2007 12:11 AM

probably for their great support...which you should probably use :)

mC - I SERIOUSLY recommend you contact Split_Joel... you will not be disappointed with SplitInfinity and that's a promise. Their network is great and support is beyond fantastic. There is always 2 or 3 of them hanging around on icq/aim and they will address your concerns to the full.

Profits of Doom 01-14-2007 01:23 AM

So if one were going to use virtual hosting, what is the consensus on the most reliable company? Is it SplitInfinity?

Great Answer

stev0 01-14-2007 02:42 AM

I've been using webair for one of my main servers for a while... I've got nothing bad to say about them, their support has been awsome every time i've needed help installing scripts and I haven't noticed a minute of downtime.

To the question... why do I like webair?

I've tried quite a few hosts over the last 9 years or so, and the only two i've stuck with are webair and serverprovider. They both have great support, which is what it really comes down to. Mike and the other webair support guys have helped me out anytime i've ever had a problem installing stuff or fixing scripts (i know nothing about linux), and they send me nice xmas cards :) I have to say the same thing about Sami and serverprovider... the guy answers his cell 24 hours a day and really goes above and beyond to make sure you're happy.

I would recommend both of these companies.

I'm not going to name any of the hosts i've had bad experiences with... only advice is stick with reputable managed hosting unless you know what you're doing. The super cheap deals look like a bargain, but you get what you pay for.

Open a ticket... they'll make it work. :thumbsup

I really can't say enough about their support... when i transfered servers I gave them the info to my old server, and they switched it over... blogs, bbs's, everything worked great. I've tried doing the transfers myself before, never again.

smack 01-14-2007 02:56 AM

i have a small webair virtual, just basically for testing and bullshit pic linking. not that i haven't considered hosting more with them, just that everything else was already setup with a different company before i decided to give webair a try.

so i can't really give any insight on their performance with mysql, but i haven't had any major problems to date with them.

had a small hiccup today with my ftp, but an email to support and everything was back as it should have been in just a few minutes.

sorry to hear about your issues though. when anything goes wrong with one of my important hosting accounts i go from calm to shitting bricks in about 5 seconds, so i understand your frustration.

but you know. do what you gotta do. hope you get everything sorted out.

I've opened more tickets this weekend than for any other host. When I asked them to install WP for they told me "There is a $150 per hour charge of having any 3rd party software installed. Let us know if you wish to continue and we will proceed." Bah, they're not for me.

chaze 01-14-2007 03:03 AM

I would just contact them again, then maybe try another host if it's not fixed.

I have heard mostly good things so don't be detoured by other hosts trying to take accounts. (not that they are here)

Broda 01-14-2007 09:01 AM

We have lots of users on webair who have no issues at all, never have either. Probably some have, I can't say.

But what beats me is why ANYONE would ever consider a shared account. I mean, come on, a ded box almost anywhere is like $100 MAX a month for a decent configuratoin and usually sufficient of bw.

If $100 is too much for you, then look at it as a motivator for growth so you HAVE to earn enough to be able to pay the $100 a month.

I'm not a sig whore, I use webair . . there are minor probs1-2 times a year, no more than the last host I used, however I get right on the phone and get them solved asap . . :2 cents:
