DMOZ Dead?
I haven't been able to submit new sites to that thing for weeks. There is a post in their forums from Dec 18 about server problems, no update since then. Does anyone have current information on them? Its almost like they said "Aww, fuck it." and left the servers on.

DMOZ has been dead for years
Its a conspiracy
I don't see the appeal in DMOZ. I haven't been to their directory to look for a site in years. Their "elite"-ness has pretty much disappeared
Plenty of sites still use the database and it is an easy way to get your URL out there for Google to eat up.
you can monitor deleting domains with dmoz listings with http://IPalert.com using the Pending Delete Domain Watcher. i use it every day btw. so should you.

i stopped submitting site s to dmoz in 2005, the quality went down
Dmoz suffered a major crash a few months ago and no editors have been able to edit up until about a week ago, but all domains submitted were removed from the queue and an old backup was brought back. Anyone who had submitted domains from october to december should try again :P

DMOZ died for new submissions a long time ago, RIP ...
i dont bother with it either anymore
I still submit after dumb hope that one day somebody will actually approve sites.
what a coincidence, I was just trying to submit there for the first time in years yesterday and got the same error messages
DMOZ suck one way or another.
Why would anybody ever...EEEEEEVVVVVVER waste thier time submittign to that shit directory.
DMOZ died a long time ago.
However, the current death throws are funny to watch. Apparently there was a "server error" that just happened to lose all of the pending submissions, all of the editing history, and even much of the banned or rejected site list. At this point, editors can edit again (existing sites) but there is no mechanism in place to submit new sites or add new sites, so effectively editing has come to a standstill. A great idea, corrupted by too many people with their own agendas. |

I used to be able to tell the minute AOL updated their DMOZ listings by my increase in sales. Damn that was good times :)

Well still it will be good to have link there :)
i heard they recently opened up to new submissions again - just word of mouth though, no actual evidence.

The server crash actually allowed me to get the editing up-to-date! :)
Why would you want to submit to DMOZ? It's a great directory to have a link on for free & the SEs like it. |
PR ranking will soon join dmoz
oh yes it's dead for a while...
Its just a nice PR backlinks, nothing else.
Its completely dead.
