DMOZ Dead?

I haven't been able to submit new sites to that thing for weeks. There is a post in their forums from Dec 18 about server problems, no update since then. Does anyone have current information on them? Its almost like they said "Aww, fuck it." and left the servers on.

Andiz 01-11-2007 12:05 AM

DMOZ has been dead for years

Dirty F 01-11-2007 12:05 AM

Its a conspiracy

adultchica 01-11-2007 12:06 AM

I don't see the appeal in DMOZ. I haven't been to their directory to look for a site in years. Their "elite"-ness has pretty much disappeared

minusonebit 01-11-2007 12:06 AM

Plenty of sites still use the database and it is an easy way to get your URL out there for Google to eat up.

XPays 01-11-2007 12:16 AM

you can monitor deleting domains with dmoz listings with http://IPalert.com using the Pending Delete Domain Watcher. i use it every day btw. so should you.

Exactly. The corruption inherent in the "editor" positions rivals those of small third world countries. Unbelievable. Good thing there's other ways to get quality one way links from high PR sources.:thumbsup

salesman 01-11-2007 03:42 AM

i stopped submitting site s to dmoz in 2005, the quality went down

Project-Shadow 01-11-2007 04:01 AM

Dmoz suffered a major crash a few months ago and no editors have been able to edit up until about a week ago, but all domains submitted were removed from the queue and an old backup was brought back. Anyone who had submitted domains from october to december should try again :P

Would you care to share that info? Talking about dirs it seems that there are very little that accept adult and dont require a linkback, almost none.

DMOZ died for new submissions a long time ago, RIP ...

free4porn 01-11-2007 06:45 AM

i dont bother with it either anymore

Sarah_Jayne 01-11-2007 07:43 AM

I still submit after dumb hope that one day somebody will actually approve sites.

Jace 01-11-2007 07:47 AM

what a coincidence, I was just trying to submit there for the first time in years yesterday and got the same error messages

Klen 01-11-2007 07:55 AM

DMOZ suck one way or another.

Mighty Chin 01-11-2007 10:13 AM

Why would anybody ever...EEEEEEVVVVVVER waste thier time submittign to that shit directory.

RawAlex 01-11-2007 10:18 AM

DMOZ died a long time ago.

However, the current death throws are funny to watch. Apparently there was a "server error" that just happened to lose all of the pending submissions, all of the editing history, and even much of the banned or rejected site list.

At this point, editors can edit again (existing sites) but there is no mechanism in place to submit new sites or add new sites, so effectively editing has come to a standstill.

A great idea, corrupted by too many people with their own agendas.

By the time they delete, they've usually been deleted from the directory though. Or least the ones I bought have.

Trixxxia 01-22-2007 07:07 AM

The server crash actually allowed me to get the editing up-to-date! :)

Why would you want to submit to DMOZ? It's a great directory to have a link on for free & the SEs like it.

EscortBiz 01-22-2007 07:09 AM

PR ranking will soon join dmoz
