HD encoding; how can I reduce file sizes without sacrificing the quality?

I'm using sorensen squeeze, and the video looks amazing, but the file sizes are very large. I just encoded a 19 second clip at 1280x720, 5000Kbps, 2-Pass VBR and the file size is 21Mb.

I don't even know what H.264 is! I'm using Sorensen Squeeze to convert the files from their native format to wmv and quicktime.

Here you can find some HD streaming samples. They are very high quality, but a minimum connection of 5Mbit is recuired.
They use H.264 2 pass encoding.

That's way too low. Anything under 3Mbit/s at 1280x720 will be lackluster. :2 cents:

It's HD. There isn't a way to really reduce the file size. However, a bit rate of 3-4Mbit/s will help reduce the files size while keeping the quality. We found the sweet spot to be 3.7Mbit/s for our HD WMV movies.
