Bump for you, but there seems to be very few around that are able to do it.

I love NATS, but carma was way too slow for me.

Too slow in what way? I am currently looking at it and I am hoping it can handle the traffic. What kind of server setup were you using? How many members?

I am *able*, but it is quite an undertaking and not a lot of people want to pay the costs.

Carma is great we use it in our members area but I don't agree with the costs TMM charge to do stuff. They charged us $1000 to add our movies into the script. Ten hours work it was they billed us for @ $100 an hour. Outrarageous!

Templating carma is expensive, but it needs to be done. It's not ready to just install and go. It's costing us close to 4k just to have a nice looking members area (that's not including design just coding the templates). We are using Envisionext Adult but I just found out WebInc does it too.

how many freakin templates are in carma? i dont understand how it can be so complicated. at that cost, why not write one from scratch?

natkejs 01-20-2007 11:47 PM

I can have this done in-house without a problem but as fuzebox mentioned it takes time and it does cost some money.

the software has to be setup in different ways depending on what type of site you're trying to build to get as much as possible out of it, it's not only a matter of coding the templates.

as far as speed goes SMARTY templates isn't superfast and depending on how much shit you put in there pageloads takes a bit but it can be written to run pretty fast it just depends on the traffic load vs server setup.

I'm kind of curious too.

Instead of spending thousands on learning and modifying a system, why not build your own system that does exactly what you want? Seems to me you could get this done without spending the $4k mentioned above.

You are right, it was an option considered. But to write one from scratch would be WAY more than 4k. Not to mention testing the script, running into errors, getting support for the custom script. Although it's not like Carma doesn't have it's errors or offers great support either :-(
We didn't know it would be that much to get the templates done and incorporate smarty features. Looks like MAS might have been a more reliable choice, although ElevatedX looks very promising.

They do it, because they can..

But they did a great job! If you don't find anyone, TMM is the company you should contact!

Holy fuck.

It's time to raise the rates I guess...
