So I end up with crutches and 3 doctors and 1 intern not knowing...

WTF is wrong with my leg.

SO I am turning around to the GFY Doctors and see if anyone as an idea on what this could be.

Ok 3 days ago I had a massage done cause I been having lots of back pains and problems with my erniated disks. Then in the evening went to hit few golf balls with a friend. All good back was not to bad.

The day wake up and shin hurts when I walk, Hell they even squreetch and squeek when you put your hand on it and I move my foot. So I show my mom and sister and Everyone is like WTF???

Later that night go to a friends place, she touches and feels the skreetching (same as when you eat curd cheese) and she to goes WTF???

Yesterday I get up and shortly after it's all back but hurts more when I walk. Go see walk in clinic and the elderly asian chick doctor touches and goes Huh??? She calls in her hubby who's also a doctor and he goes Huh??? So she says I should go to emergency at the Hospital.

Arrive Emergency at 6pm clear the sign up after 1:30 hours. They call to see me at around 9 something and I see an intern. I tell her " hey touch here you'll see it's freaky" I take her hand put it on my shin and start moving my foot. She looks at me with a Huh? face and goes get the doctor. Doctor looks at it and her to says she don't know what is the problem never seen a thing like it before. They give me anti inflamatories and pain killaz and send me for a xray. Xray fine and now I am on crutches and have an appointement with an Ortopedic Surgeon on Wednesday

Smokey, I am a bit of an Hypocondriac so I asked all the docs about this being a vein issue as in blood clot or anything related, but nope.

Fuck I move my feet right now and I can hear the grinding of the tendons on top of the shin. Really fucking weird :helpme

Quickdraw 01-09-2007 12:42 PM

Sounds like shin splints to me, but seems the docs should know what that is.

lulu36 01-09-2007 12:43 PM

that's messed up hon. i have to say i've never heard of it. however, if you have herniated disks, for ex. between the L4-L5, which would affect the sciatic, you never know. mais, c'est bizarre. i hope you find out soon what's going on.

Tanker 01-09-2007 12:50 PM

yeah I would say it sounds like shin splints too Lots of Soldiers get it but I too think if it was that a doctor would have known

Scottish Guy 01-09-2007 01:04 PM

CuriousToyBoy 01-09-2007 01:12 PM

fuzebox 01-09-2007 01:21 PM

I was going to say shin splints as well... I get the same sort of pain if I run too much or with an incline, but never that curd cheese thing...

iamkathi 01-09-2007 01:25 PM

get well my friend, you can't chase the girlies if your shins are making cheezy noises. It isn't romantic :angel

reynold 01-09-2007 07:54 PM

What I was going to suggest as well

beemk 01-09-2007 08:02 PM

its good to see someone smart enough to go see a doctor before asking for advice on gfy.

Jman 01-10-2007 10:42 AM

Fucking shit fuck... Shit fuck fuck  :321GFY

Just got back from seeing a Orthopedic Surgeon and he to has no fucking clue. Xray's are fine, no inflamation redness or warmth so infection possibility is very slim. He's fucking puzzled so now I require more fucking tests.

So January 30th I go get an echography of the right leg and Feb 15th go to the Nuclear medecin department to get more test done on the bones.

SleazyDream 01-10-2007 10:46 AM

Hey Baby Love!

I miss my sonny boy too. Very sorry to hear you're not doing well :(

Here are my thoughts:

#1, you have herniated disks which inevitably protude and put pressure on your sciatic nerve.

#2, the larger the protusion, the more pressure on the sciatic nerve, the lower down the leg the pain radiates.

#3, you were already experiencing a stiff lower back as a result of the herniated disks putting pressure on your sciatic nerve. Herniated disks do not cause pain unless they are pinching a disk.

#4, Golfing is an aggressive repetitive rotating motion rigorously involving your lower back... a.k.a. your ruptured/herniated disks so it sounds like you were already doing bad and the golfing irritated the hell out of it, which is why you feel the pain all the way down to your foot.

#5, The repetitive motion and body positioning during golfing also engages a muscle known as the "Piriformis" which amazingly not too many doctors even remember learning about in medical school.

The "Piriformis" is the small muscle which runs through the small insert in your hip bone along with the sciatic nerve. People who do repetitive activities involving that part of their body such as dancers, (probably hookers!) and computer geeks like us who sit at the computer for WAAAAAY too long (which has the same irritating effect on it) can experience swelling on that particular muscle which since it runs alongside the Sciatic nerve through the small insert, puts pressure on the nerve and it is the most excruciating pain you will ever ever ever feel.

Are the muscles on that leg contracted almost all of the time? Taking steps is excruciating. Your foot feels like it is breaking in half.

The answer?

Increase your potassium intake because it helps against muscle spasms. (consult your doctor for the right amount, don't poison yourself).

Take an anti-anflamatory such as Aleve (Naproxen.) You can take up to 3 Aleve twice a day without hurting yourself but this shouldn't be done long term.

Take a muscle relaxant such as Flexeril 5 or Soma temporarily to help release the kinks.

But most importantly and the only thing that is going to truly help and not just mask the problem is to STRETCH!!!

It is extremely painful, you will cry and be in tears like a little bitch but it is the only thing which is truly going to help you.

You may want to try a Bikram Yoga studio because the elevated temperatures in those studios (107 degrees) warms up your muscles and that really helps you stretch out the muscles which are being affected by the sciatic problem.

Also, try to get some traction on that lower back.

There is a traction table called Vass D which has a different type of effect and creates suction which can help suck the disks back into position.

Okay my dear, this is all I have to say about this. I could be barking up the wrong tree but considering most doctors don't remember the piriformis, I would say that is the root of your problems.

Much love,
Leslie

Wow this all makes sense but what about the curd cheese squeaking and the noise it makes?

Also no pain in the foot just there right between the foot and the kneew on the front, feels like if I stretch my feet to hard it will all rip inside.

LeslieSharp 01-10-2007 01:51 PM

I will give it some more thought and see what I can think of.

Much love,
Leslie

C_U_Next_Tuesday 01-10-2007 03:02 PM

I had the squeaking noice you describe when I tore my ligaments in my ankle , but that is not your prob. LeslieSharp sounds spot on. Ibruprofen, cervical pillow, a good matress, watch your posture, strengthen your stomach muscles (protects that lower back), stretch, traction...drink lots of water and maybe take some bone and joint stuff to lube up the joints.

I have arthritis , herniated discs , and bone spurs in the neck and bad scoliosis of the spine..I can sometimes be in pain for long periods of time.

There is a whole lot of foods that will aggravate bone problems too.

forgot to add that these are the things that help me manage my back pain and were suggested by my dr.

good luck and hope you feel better
