Mayors Money - $5 per check now?

doesn't bother me really, just wierd is all....$5 is pretty hefty for a check fee, what exactly costs $5 for a check to be cut and mailed? do they use some outside service?

Quote:

We wanted to let you know of a change at MayorsMoney. Due to the accounting costs and inherent problems involved with cutting and delivering checks, we will now be charging a $5 fee for check payouts.

wyldworx 01-08-2007 11:34 AM

gold plating, methinx!

baddog 01-08-2007 11:34 AM

damn . . .

thebigstorm 01-08-2007 11:36 AM

Much larger programs cutting way more checks than them, and don't charge.

wyldblyss 01-08-2007 11:36 AM

Wow, bit steep in my opinion.

DjSap 01-08-2007 11:36 AM

Sending out checks costs money, if they didn't charge a fee it would result in lower payouts.

who 01-08-2007 11:36 AM

Which retard thinks that the webmasters should pay to run the fucking sponsor's business?? That's fucking ridiculous. I would be much more fucking disturbed if they were my sponsor.

What's next, $10 fee to all affiliates for 'hosted gallery server rental' ?

Snake Doctor 01-08-2007 11:37 AM

Yeah that's pretty steep.

Paycom still charges $2 I think. Most PPS programs don't charge anything.

dissipate 01-08-2007 11:37 AM

That fee seems a bit odd.

Boobs 01-08-2007 11:37 AM

it must be the "handling" fee

SleazyDream 01-08-2007 11:38 AM

hummm, if they send 2 checks a week and have a low payout they can claw back $40 from small accounts....

not a bad idea....... :2 cents:

Babaganoosh 01-08-2007 11:39 AM

Conversions are in the toilet. It's not like they'll be mailing as many checks as they used to anyway.

No, that's what minimum payouts are for, sport.

JD 01-08-2007 11:40 AM

total crap imho. it's a cost of doing business with affiliates... another one that chaps my ass is the 2-4 dollar epass fee when they've already got a check cutting fee. WTF I have to pay to get my money??? lame...

How much is postage up there anyway?

So, how much does it cost to receive by wire?

polish_aristocrat 01-08-2007 11:40 AM

i couldn't care less, since the wire fee is usually $20 anyway

RawAlex 01-08-2007 11:47 AM

As more and more programs feel the pinch of shorter rebills, higher content production costs, and significantly poorer conversions, they will look in every corner for ways to make money or save costs on the bottom line. The easiest way to do this is to pass expenses on to the affiliates.

Realitically, a check in the mail costs about $1.00 (postage, envelope, check costs) upwards to $2.00 if you include the manpower required to get the checks in the envelope, etc. If your staff is really expensive or if you are trying to sink other costs into the check operations, it can cost you more.

It is all about turning a cost center into a revenue neutral or even a minor profit center. Instead of losing maybe $1000 a week mailing checks (assume 500 checks at $2 each) you could instead turn a $1500 profit ($2500 in fees less the $1000 costs). On a weekly program, this could push an extra 80k a year to the bottom line.

RevSand 01-08-2007 11:48 AM

Seems a bit steep to get a check.. Enless they have some LOWER cost alternative way that they are trying to get people to go to instead. I have not looked if this is the case yet.. Does anyone know?

B.I.N.G.O. I believe we do have a winner!!!

noooze 01-08-2007 11:53 AM

I just talked to a guy from my local bank - if i had to send out printed checks from them, it wouldt cost 5 $ pr check, unless i had a big volume...

travelingmike 01-08-2007 11:55 AM

maybe the Mayor needs Beer money.....

phasic 01-08-2007 11:57 AM

No, it's not a winner. Of course you've explained the reason why they would do it (and well), but it's not like that isn't obvious already.

The point about the whole thing is that it reveals so much about how Mayors Money treats their webmasters. Not only is it poor business practice, but it is absolutely laughable that they think it's acceptable to charge the webmasters for their own business expenses.

It is evidence of a sinking ship, poor business fundamentals, and if I was pushing them I would be immediately looking elsewhere.

In a 9-5 job would you accept if your boss deducted $5 from your wage every month for 'wage payment expenses'?

This is utterly unforgivable.

it does cost $5+ to have an outside service print and ship checks.

yes, but that is a cost of doing business, not an affiliate cost. Passing on every expense to the affiliate is a really big no-no.

Next fees will be the "content shooting fee" and "image color correction fee" and the "video encoding fee"...

pretty soon we will all send joins just for the fun of it.

Mayor 01-08-2007 12:09 PM

You guys are pretty funny :)

Fact is, checks are retarded. I don't pay employees by check nor my bills nor anything at all for that matter.

Checks are an archaic throw back from last century. I am attempting to make it less appealing to get a check and more appealing to get your money instantly with Epassporte. Hell I am even paying for your new Epassporte account and I will set it up for you. If you don't like getting your money instantly then you may CHOOSE to pay $5 and get a check.

Up here? Where are you? The Keys :) We're in South Florida man!

Wire fees are the same as they always have been. Domestic wire 30 Int 40.
Epassporte FREE (and we'll set up your account for FREE)

This has convinced me I'll never promote Mayors Money. Sorry, but dude, you seem to be a complete idiot.

xxxice 01-08-2007 12:15 PM

Correct me if I am wrong. To get money by epass is a $2 charge for them to send it. To withdraw it is another $2. So to get paid by epass is $4 and check is $5 so a $1 diff to get checks?

SomeCreep 01-08-2007 12:15 PM

Wow, charging $5 to cut a check? That's ridiculously high. Meatcash charges like $2.95 to cut a check and I thought that was bad. Well, if sponsors are going to start charging us affiliates this much to cut a check, they might as well start charging us for the bandwidth we burn using their free hosted galleries. Or maybe charge us a licensing fee for the free content we use to promote their sites.

bareskin 01-08-2007 12:17 PM

Fuck them thats shits for the birds I'll never use anyone charging for checks. does the lazy ass bitch payroll clerk need a fucking raise or something

some people prefer checks over epass payments, easier to keep track of money made when you're not relying on an online service for balances :2 cents:

Tie your epass to your bank account and save the fees. Most people I pay would have to pull cash out every day if they were trying to hit the ATM lol.

They would rather have 1:3000 TGP traffic than 1:20 SE traffic. Simple enough.

I find it very convient on Fridays that when I hit "pay" 1000's of people have the money that second regardless of where they live. To me, that's of GREAT value. But like I said, it's a choice, no one is forcing anyone.

If an affiliate makes a deal and he's not some GFY moron with 8 clicks, I'll go add a 100 bucks to his account and cover his next 2 years of check fees :)

For those that obviously don't know us, we actually have a great relationship with all our affiliates. We host many of them on dedicated servers shoot content for them, hang out etc. . . A couple morons from GFY with no relationship with us or our affiliates won't change that LOL

Jace 01-08-2007 12:27 PM

wowzer, this thread took a dive fast

I don't get ANYTHING but checks because my accountant says so...period

checks mean a paper trail...a paper trail means solid accounting on my part..if the irs ever comes I just pull out my big envelope from that year and hand it over

Kimmykim 01-08-2007 12:30 PM

Mayor's business, Mayor's rules. I doubt he'd have been around this long if he weren't doing quite a few things right.

Dirty Dane 01-08-2007 12:31 PM

just raise the min. payout
