Who's getting fucked by bouncing emails ?

Someone's using my email to fucking spam !
I'm getting bounced emails.

It happened a little while ago and it stopped.
Remember some of you where getting it in the a$$ too ?

Well it has started again i guess. At least for me.

Anyone else ?

DomP_nl 01-07-2007 09:37 AM

same here, sux big time

Trax 01-07-2007 09:39 AM

yep same here

SmokeyTheBear 01-07-2007 09:49 AM

just fyi . i often hear people say this like its them that being targetted . so ill explain a bit about "basic mass emailing"

there are several methods so i'll explain the simplest

this is spammers list

[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]

so he wants to send an email to all 3 .. if he puts his real retun address of course people will find him and tell him to fuck off , if he puts a fake email in there it has a chance of hitting a spam blovker because the domain might not exist. if he uses the same return address for every email he is also prone to getting caught by filters.. so the easiest way is to simple send the first email from the next guy your going to email..

so [email protected] gets an email with a fake return of [email protected] , if [email protected] doesnt exist [email protected] gets the bounced email

p.s. this is in no way implying you dont understand this , but just thought i would point it out for the newbs..

p.s.s. i dont know much about email but not sure why a server would even accept a bounce when it hadn't sent the email.. stupid email. thats why i hate email.

Fabien 01-07-2007 09:55 AM

Fuck i've been online since 96 and it still pisses me off when it happens.

RawAlex 01-07-2007 10:37 AM

I took 28 pages of bad emails out of spamarrest this morning. 90% of them were bounces... the rest were the usual pump and dump stock bullshit and the very occassional adult spam.

Get use to it. Unless the authorities get a handle on this particular spam group, email will become effectively worthless. I can't wait to see if the arrival of Vista slows down the spammers for at least a few days.

King Adam 01-07-2007 10:40 AM

Smokey .... you might be one of the smartest heros I know.

Mr Bond 01-07-2007 11:08 AM

I've gone as far as to build my own spam filter....

It's white list only... and I can dig emails out from the spam trap if I need too (like right after ordering something online or signing up at a sponsor)

It has been very effective... not even 1 spam has gotten through...

uno 01-07-2007 11:18 AM

i have some damn nice domains and get this all the time. I just filter out bounced emails.

bizarredollars 01-07-2007 11:23 AM

I have 1000's of domains, and used to get a ton of spams to addreesses that would only be found by domain mining... Pointing them all to a spamarrest protected address has saved me a shit load of time.

DraX 01-07-2007 11:24 AM

yes same here guys, lots of bouncing email :(

slapass 01-07-2007 11:38 AM

Same here so it can't be smokeys system or the bounces would all be the same.

Wagerboy 01-07-2007 04:49 PM

I am getting crushed with it, like 200 a day now. Is there a way to filter this?

jerzeemedia 01-07-2007 05:02 PM

Hundreds and hundreds per day, every damned second a new one comes in.

KingK7 01-07-2007 05:14 PM

I just had 22,500 worthless emails blocked, around 10 of them were "important", took SpamArrest 2 days just to download it...

CuriousToyBoy 01-07-2007 05:31 PM

Yep, I have a couple of domains getting nailed.

Assholes.

:-(

Eyes_Without_A_Face 01-07-2007 05:33 PM

Hitting me hard too :(
FUCKERS

Juicy George 01-07-2007 05:40 PM

this morning i'm up to 1200 so far!

Martin3 01-07-2007 05:43 PM

Turn off your catch all

starpimps 01-07-2007 05:44 PM

ya it happened to me before also

Fabien 01-08-2007 06:46 AM

Wow try this guys !

Just make an "IN TXT" entry to your dns server (zone file)
with the correct spf settings

Example:
to just allow your own machine and the MX records to send out as your domain, and let the other mailservers see that your the real deal

Code:

"v=spf1 a mx ~all"

Thanks to Bill

cheekycherry 01-08-2007 09:51 AM

Yup, they are flowing like a bastard here!

Send the SAS in to end the spammers!

Martin 01-08-2007 10:18 AM

Yep one of my domains is getting hammerd over the last week or so. Happens on and off all the time.

wyldworx 01-08-2007 10:40 AM

Something needs 2 b done! I have had my e-mail address as a stook out for some dishonest, brainless fuck, and it was hiding passwords. I just continue to delete, but am growing angrier by the day!!

Trixxxia 01-08-2007 10:46 AM

Between the spam and the bounces my email boxes are up to the tune of about 5k mails a day - and that's just my personal ones.

i don't know much about spf records but isn't that record used if you don't send ANY email from that domain? maybe someone can confirm this?

i have this as an example of my spf record:

"v=spf1 a mx ip4:111.111.111.111 ?all"

(where 111.111.111.111 is the ip of my domain)

but i'm still getting 1000's of bounced emails where they've faked the sender address with some of my emails. is it that spf records aren't implemented properly yet or am i doing something wrong with my records? any advice appreciated.

SeniorX 01-08-2007 04:42 PM

is there a default e-mail where all bounces are sent on a server, e.g. [email protected] or are they sent to the FROM: e-mail address?

chupacabra 01-08-2007 04:53 PM

over 600 bounces today so far... pump-n-dump, weather report titles and a lot of the newest variant "xxx... says HI". fucking sucks..

:(

bdld 01-08-2007 05:05 PM

its a necessary evil.

porncargo 01-08-2007 06:32 PM

Yep . . that is what we had to do when we woke up to about 10,000 bounces one morning.

People should buy better mailing lists.

Trixxxia 01-08-2007 07:01 PM

Does anyone know how to block those confetti ones? *the ones where the image shows up with a delay and the background has confetti*
