Are TGP's a waste of money?

I want to get started in the adult biz, eventualy leading to a teen paysite. So i plan to start with a teen TGP and hopefuly make some money to put towards the paysite (and then use the TGP to feed traffic to the paysite).

But my concern is, i keep hearing everyone say that TGP's are a waste of time, with all the competition out there, and cheap surfers who are just looking for free stuff.

I'm planning on having a $500+ advertising budget (monthly) to get things started (that should get about 5k clicked traffic/day to start), but am concerned about losing this money, whereas it could just be saved for my paysite.

so what do you guys think, build the TGP, and try to make some money in the meantime, or just start saving?

Your concern can also be applied to your future teen paysite. With all the teen paysites out there, and cheap surfers who are looking for free stuff, it could be considered a waste of time as well.

Your goal in setting up a TGP should not only be to make money, but to learn how to overcome these problems. Once you're able to make money off your TGP's, you will be able to feed your own paysites yourself and thus make money off them as well.

Short version: From the knowledge you can gain from running a TGP, it is not a waste of time.

Just my two cents....

knowledge is deffinitly towards the top of my priorities, but #1 right now is to not lose any money (not trying to make a fortune off this tgp, just want to make sure i dont lose any of my money that i could save for a paysite)

The vast majority of TGP's fail. Unless you're ready to put a lot of time into it, you're better off keeping your money, especially in the beginning. I guess the same can be said for paysites though.

The vast majority of businesses fail too ;)

No, but don't expect easy money

For a paysite, having a site network in the background will make things alot easier. No need to grow a single TGP start with freesites, blogs, linksites to connect them, autoupdating small tgps, build a little empire of sites that don't require much maintenance, grow your search engine traffic.

Paysites are a mass business, especially in popular niches like teens, you don't make much per member after deducting all costs for content, billing, webmasters (and building a webmaster base that sends more than a join here and there takes time), hosting...so you need ALOT of members to be successful, especially since content costs don't depend on the number of members you have, so the more members, the more you'll have left for your pocket per member.

I know a bunch of webmasters who thought starting a paysite would be like printing money...they invested alot and can barely cover their monthly costs, not talking about the money invested upfront.

It's like driving down the street and throwing your money out the window..

Tgp's are an incredible amount of work. With a small if any payoff at first.
Consistancy and work work work are the key. If you are looking for a quick return avoid the tgp route. If you do deside to invest in one don't give up (trust me you will want to) and be really smart about your investments, research a lot.
If you go with it and stick with it they can payoff well. :2 cents:
