The Best Thing about being a Canadian?

I just got back from a trip to Europe and I have to say the best thing about being Canadian is telling people you are Canadian when you travel. As soon as people find out we are Canadian they become much more friendly. Canada really does have a great reputation around the world :thumbsup

Shap 01-06-2007 08:59 AM

Btw that said the best thing about being a Quebecer is the very warm reception you receive when in France. As soon as they hear the quebecois accent their attitude completely changes.

Agreed. Except in the US. I have a Canadian flag tag on my suitcase, and I've gotten more sighs and rolled eyes from taxi drivers in the states since 9/11 than I care to list.

L0stMind 01-06-2007 12:07 PM

you need a visa for china as well.

Why is it that you can travel anywhere in the world and have a friendly reception as a Canadian, but travel to the USA and you get a rude one?

I don't hold anything against Americans personally, I am curious what crimes Canadians have committed that is bothering Americans?

Youre Canadian?????????

wyldworx 01-06-2007 12:45 PM

I am from Australia and I share your veiw. I have relatives who reside in Calgary, and they are the warmest most caring of all relitives i correspond with on the net. I have to say that any Canadians I have been lucky enough to meet have been warm and caring, but this is not to say that they do not exist. Australians have a great reputation and are just about regarded as highly, would u agree?

WiredGuy 01-06-2007 01:54 PM

Yup, when we were in Amsterdam everyone thinks were american but the second you tell them you're canadian, they open up so much to you.

No disrespect against Canada, but the country that is universally admired the world over is the USA. The reasons are too numerous to list, but here are a few: saving Europe in WWII, going to the moon, hosting world class universities, and fostering an exceptional entrepreneurial culture. DARPA gave us the internet.

Of course, there are also those who are jealous of our success and who oppose our freedoms, particularly in the Mideast. We certainly have our critics, especially of late.

One great thing about being Canadian is that you reap all of the benefits of trading with America, your biggest trading partner. If you are a Canadian in the adult business, where do most of your customers live?

Don't forget who is Your Daddy.

I thought the best thing about being Canadian was that you guys can legally download music since you have that CDR tax.

You obviously don't travel much. Americans are not very well liked around the world. They are viewed as loud obnoxious ignorant people. Anybody who travels knows this.

webgurl 01-06-2007 10:42 PM

Its kinda funny i haven't encountered this in a while,
but I remember
some racial remarks when i was younger when people would
tell me to go back to my country where i belong .
Oh yeah pretty interesting when i get those type of comments
since I am born here :1orglaugh

I've met a whole pile of people from all over the world in my travels, and I have got to say from a Canadian standpoint, Aussies are some of the coolest shits I've ever hung out with. Canada & Australia a very compatible when it comes down to it. You're basically our long lost brothers from the lower hemisphere. but you're a bunch of filthy criminals... :upsidedow

If we're so bad here in the states, then why are so many mofos trying to get in here?

pussyluver 01-07-2007 01:47 AM

Bet the end of the Iraqi bullshit will be thousands of them migrating to the states. Kinda of a similar situation to Nam.

i think you'll find most of those people are mexicans, and thats because they are so poor they have little choice. but don't get me wrong, america is a great country, the only problem with it is that its full of americans.
