Anyone been to Cuba?
 

In my never ending effort to annoy the US govt, I'm thinking of flying down from Toronto on my vacation next month. Been there? Got any stories to tell?

My dad was on a plane from Venezuela that was hijacked to Cuba in 1966. He was held there for 3 days. I still have some of the tin coins that he brought back as souvenirs. Does that count? :)

3 star hotels=converted horse stalls. Also, my friend stopped there when he was on a cruise; he bought a pop off a local kid and the local kid was promptly arrested for mixing with the tourist. He also said there were tons of kids hooking down there. Other people I know have said they had a great time though. I guess you pretty much have too stay within the designated tourist complexs/hotels.

Cuba is great! I went there last winter and had a great time! Your money can go a LONG way :) Be sure to tip the taxi drivers with beer, they seem to drive better when they are drunk!

I been there : service, food and drinks are below average. Try Spain chain "RIU" - the best in Cuba

The guys who post to the Cuba section of this board are the pro's when it comes to travelling to Cuba from the US or Canada. Hotels, car rentals, tour guides, apartment rentals, group hookups, customs/immigration issues, getting laid 5 times a day, dining, up to date conditions reports.. its all there.

And if its not there, you can ask, and in a day or two it will be.

The admin charges like $5 a month for access. Its well worth it, even if you just want to read for curiosity value.

twice a year. Christmas and eary July are the best times
for avoiding German tourists. (It's important when
bathing suit tops are optional)

You money goes SOOOOO far it's crazy! before you leave your room, make sure you've got a stack of $1 bills... they will get you everything :winkwink:

Also, don't fall for any scams like people coming up to you in the street asking you if you have some cigars. LOL!

but! do buy some Cigars... Cohiba cigars are very, very good!
