quite close:1orglaugh come to think of it now that Phoenix mentioned it...Heathrow is rather disgusting...it of course depends on the terminals the most disgusting airport i've come across in the western world is Paris d'Orly...really old skool and dirty! |
Never been there.
|
Something tells me there are worse but probably in countries none of us would care to visit.
|
One thing I learned the hard way: If you have a connecting flight at different terminals, make sure they are at *least* 2 hours apart ... It can take well over an hour to get from one to the other. Not fun.
|
I've never found those conditions in Heathrow but I would still fly Gatwick instead if I had the choice between the two. My recentish visit to O'hare was worse in the bathrooms
I suspect it depends on the time of day, which terminal, etc. I tend to fly very early in the morning for my flights to the States and it has always been clean. |
it's allways ok when i've flown in and out of it, it's not an excuse but it is the busiest airport in the world. i usually fly in and out of gatwick myself which has allways been clean and tidy.

Heathrow is too big but yet there is demand for it to expand and that is with four other airports that serve London too. |

Red Carpet Club has a nice smoking area, plush lounges, big screen TV, 15 yards to the bar and food.
I like it. ;-) |
The small Sheremetyevo (1 or 2 can't remember) in Moscow is pretty bad
|
Most European airports seem to put Heathrow to shame...
IMHO Stansted is even worse - horrible airport:( |
my favourite airport i have vistited is probably Nice in france. you land right next to the sea - sweet. the worst is Norwich airport where the only cafe there charges what they want.
|
mexico city has a pretty crazy airport... i dunno about disgusting but strange anyways..
I had 2 cops try to "borrow" money from me ( and sort of intimidating since they are carrying assault rifles ) Theres an arby's in the airport but an arby's sadnwich cost like $20 usd ( yup mexico ) They also dont let you sleep.. i missed my flight and had 16 hours to wait , didnt want to risk getting a hotel and falling asleep so i waited in the airport.. every time i nodded off a cop would wake me up ( maybe so i didnt get mugged ) |
I would probably say Bangkok is worse. I don't mind heathrow except for the fact that it's packed all the time. When it comes to cleanliness LAX is pretty bad as well, so is Denpasar in Bali but that's expected.
Why can't all airports be like Singapore's, you can easily eat food of the toilet floor there. |

sure but you have to see it for what it is.... only budget airlines... it seems more like a cattle processing plant than an airport |
I think I've only been to terminal one and it's never that bad. I always end up having a hell of a layover in London for whatever reason, I always just put on tunes and walk around and check out the sites. the fact that they have a smoking room there is super sweet.
|
been there a few times and have always found it to be fine
not great not terrible |

Manchester arrivals is grim as fuck and the departures lounge is shit if you have a delayed flight... the one bar (that one in the corner) is just the pits, though they have some decent barmaids sometimes... |

I always head to the departure's lounge for a bit of shut eye |

Nothing is worse then the airport in Montreal, the whole place smells like a swamp, they really need to have someone come in and remove all those frogs.
|
It was really gross to see the airport.
WG |
Terminal 4.. three weeks ago. fucking nasty.. had to take out my laptop three times. half of those guys spoke Hindu instead of English. the only airport that comes close is old detroit airport.
|
Heathrow is a blight upon the boil that is the UK.
|
If you guys go to Bombay someday, you gonna see how hell looks like. It stinks everywhere, malaria mosquitoes all over you, and security people have to be bribed ... LOL
|
Absolutely hate Heathrow. Having to wait hours and walk through a maze of hallways that seem to lead to nowhere. Find yourself walking up stairs then downstairs and magically you appear outside waiting for a bus to take you to the next maze.
Best would be Hong Kong, I love that place, so organised..... |
With Heathrow it really does depend on which terminal and what time however as has already been said it is not only one of the largest and busiest airports in the world but also one of the oldest !
There are plans already though for a brand new building that houses all the terminals that should be finished before the olympics but this is the UK so it wont be ! :1orglaugh |
It cant possibly be as bad as Port Au Prince International.
|
No, but Paris Hilton is the most disgusting heirport in the world.

heathrow sucks

Heathrow is a nasty airport, so is Gatwick.
Most (west) European airports are rather nice though ( with the exception of Heathrow and Gatwick ) |

It's in London, so most probably!!!

Short answer: Yes.
|
Ive always found Terminal 3 to be the most dis-organised, the grimmest is Terminal 2 but it is the oldest. Always done ok with Terminal 4, but having said that I think the Gatwick experience is better overall.

never been there..hope if i go to that place..i can't enounter that damn nasty thing...yikess!!!
|
at least everything is the same. Try any hotel in the area of heathrow which
I had to do 3 times because of non connecting flights. You pay a bar minimum of approx $300 - 400 per night for a room that's worse than almost any European jail.....don't ask but I know..... |
oh and breakfast in these hotel is an experience by itself....I get sick again
just thinking about it. Makes plane food gourmet restaurants. |
fly direct from now on..and my problem there is solved..lol

Besides being one of the most confusing airports I've ever been in, and certainly showing its age, it wasn't THAT bad when we were there. As someone mentioned earlier it is like a freaking maze. You'd swear you had been walking miles and you were no where near where you were supposed to be. The bathrooms were shaped a little odd since the entire "wing" we were on (terminal 2?) was like the body of an airplane. Gatwick was nice, I thought.
ATL has some bad bathrooms too - the ones behind the waiting line at the top of the escalators for arrivals ALWAYS seems to be just nasty filthy dirty. Or at least they were up until about 4 years ago when I stopped using them Plus at ATL you pretty much have to pack a lunch to get from the parking lot to your gate. They're also one of the few airports that doesn't have a separate security line for 1st/Frequent Flyer/Airport club members. They have a separate line that gets you to security that is SOMETIMES faster but then you have to fight everyone else to get into the actually x-ray lines. Orange County/Santa Ana/John Wayne and San Diego airports are so far my favorites for getting in and out fast, except for the little tiny ones like Hilton Head. |
