With all the morbid fascination with death and dying on the Internet, would you....?

watch the Steve Irwin death video if it ever became public? The "last" remaining tape was handed over to his widow, wonder if there are others still in existence?

I dont know why but I always end up watching these crazy vids even though they always get me upset. I had nightmares for a week after watching the video of this guy getting beheaded by arabs last year. Still, i cant seem to help myself pushing the button... go figure.

Scottish Guy 01-04-2007 12:57 PM

I think they are highly entertaining to q point but after words I have a long think about it and wish I never watched it

DeadFidel 01-04-2007 12:59 PM

I only want to see one person dead. Guess who:1orglaugh

Sick Bastard 01-04-2007 01:01 PM

I'll watch it, post it, and make money off it, as it IS a banged-up world we live in.

polish_aristocrat 01-04-2007 01:03 PM

no, why would I be interested in seeing someone's death?

I haven't watched the Saddam video either

Screaming 01-04-2007 01:04 PM

I would defently watch it.

WebairGerard 01-04-2007 01:05 PM

I would probably watch it if it did only because I like his show and would want to see what happened. I usually do not watch all those types of videos though. there is an old saying though: "life loves a tragedy" so there will always be people to check it out.

PaulB IYP 01-04-2007 01:07 PM

of course I would
man that tape is worth piles of gold

Sarah_Jayne 01-04-2007 01:09 PM

no...I don't get making the active choice to watch a death and not only that go against the wishes of their widow and cause her more pain.

JUSTB 01-04-2007 01:11 PM

I'd probably watch it. If it was reported as gruesome I'd skip it.

Less nightmarish than some of the pictures posted on GFY

I saw these flicks when I was 18 or so.

Ramos 01-04-2007 02:15 PM

yes, I would watch it, but those beheading, I can't bring myself to watch those

I saw the original on VHS 25+ years ago

Mediachick 01-04-2007 02:22 PM

I think JFK got the right term when he talks about 'fascination'. Death afterall is fate of every being and the most mysterious phonomenon in the life cycle that I can kinda get why one is tempted to see it happening. Not in a perverse way but in a more kinda morbid curiosity.... This is how I see it in my case anyway. But yeah the beheading, I could've skipped. That's just pure cruelty. :Oh crap

Similar for me. VHS. About 1989 I'd guess.

ADL Colin 01-04-2007 02:27 PM

Such fascination is surely normal. My mom called me the other day to ask where she could see the Saddam hanging video.

Well, the Internet is the new Town Square, where they held public executions a long time ago. Ala Marie Antoinette:Oh crap

sicone 01-04-2007 02:40 PM

Why the news would even announce this is beyond me. All this does is say.. hey, come break into her house and steal the tape.

Now, to answer the question... if/when the tape does hit the net, yes I will watch it, yes I will post it and take advantage of the SE traffic to make money. Its the American way.

Sarah_Jayne 01-04-2007 02:54 PM

in the past people resisted the taboo simply because it was too hard to reach it to see. Now with the internet making things so easy to see it almost as if people don't think of it as real and too easily give into the temptations. It is just the extreme of the violence spectrum much like pedo and animal porn is the extreme of the sex specturms. People that would otherwise never searched out that type of porn suddenly feel it isn't the same thing to look at in on the internet and stop listening to their good taste meters.

GlydeGirl 01-04-2007 03:05 PM

I was upset at watching the original newscasts of the "before-hanging" Saddam video without sound. Then, a couple days later, my local newscasts put out the "before-hanging" cell phone video with sound and I was even MORE upset. I haven't seen any footage of Saddam swinging from the noose and am glad for that. Honestly, I didn't want to see ANY of the Saddam execution when I turned on the evening news, I just wanted to find out about weather, traffic, and local stories.

I think it's natural to have a curiosity about death. But it's also natural for there to be a percentage of us who would like to keep ourselves away from watching people get murdered. Do whatcha like!

Sarah_Jayne 01-04-2007 03:11 PM

I read today about a few kids that have accidentally hung themselves trying to 'play act' what they saw of the Saddam footage. They were in India, I think but I wouldn't be surprised if they were in the UK or USA ..hangings on tv over the cornflakes is always a good thing.

If it is already a banged-up world, why make it worse?

This is my opinion.

"hangings on tv over the cornflakes is always a good thing." sad but true, we are totally being desensetised towards violence, its all a TV show or a game:2 cents:

Don't want to necessarily make it worse,,, just provide a FREE window for those that choose to look.

If it's there to watch and 'in my face' sure I'll watch it. I'm not going to actively seek it out, won't be doing any google searches on it. Same way with the saddam video, I saw it simply because it was posted at nearly every fucking place I visit on the web, not because I was looking for it.
