Any Miami Dolphins fans on here? It's official...Nick Saban to Alabama
Saban agrees to contract with Alabama
By Alex Marvez Sun-Sentinel.com Posted January 3 2007, 10:34 AM EST DAVIE -- The Nick Saban coaching era with the Dolphins has ended. A source said Wednesday morning that Saban has agreed to become the new head coach at the University of Alabama, ending his two-year tenure with the Dolphins. A source said Saban failed to show this morning for a scheduling meeting at team headquarters in Davie with Dolphins owner H. Wayne Huizenga. Saban told Huizenga of his intentions via telephone and then informed all of his coaches by speakerphone that he was leaving to accept the Alabama position, the source said. The deal reportedly is worth between $30 million and $32 million over eight years, although the actual value could vary based on guarantees and other clauses. Saban just finished the second year of a five-year, $22.5 million contract with the Dolphins. College success, including a 2003 national championship with Louisiana State, and an NFL reputation as a defensive guru while working as a coordinator in Cleveland during the early 1990s made Saban the Dolphins' top candidate to replace Dave Wannstedt following a disastrous 2004 season. But after a 9-7 record and six-game winning streak to end last season, the Dolphins didn't live up to preseason expectations in 2006. The Dolphins finished 6-10 and enter the offseason with one of the NFL's oldest rosters as well as uncertainty at quarterback stemming from Daunte Culpepper's knee problems. |
fuck the dolphins

time to start looking for a new coach Miami.
|
hehehe.
Wheres Holly? |
Well they have 2 failed head coaches on their roster already in Mike Mularkey and Dom Capers but neither of them is a very appealing option. At least Wayne Huizenga isn't afraid to spend money on a candidate that he likes. What really pisses me off is when Saban chastises reporters for daring to ask whether or not he is leaving for Alabama and then goes and leaves after repeated denials. Then he doesn't have the decency to even show for his meeting with Huizenga and informs his coaching staff by speakerphone. Fuck Saban and good riddance!!!!

I can't believe Saban.. What a fucking sellout. I actually liked the guy too. Oh well I guess this tell me what he's about.
I fucking hate Mike Mularky. They need to fire him. He killed our offence this year. He is so predictable and just an overall O cordinating disaster. Every team he has ever coached has the least amount of attempts of 15 yards or more down the field. So everyone just stacks the line so you cant run and you have to rely on 5 yard passes all year. This guy is horrible. If they make him head coach I'm finding a new team.. lol not reall but jeez.. everyone in the pro football world knows he is horrible |
Roll Tide!!
Now if Bama can stay away from NCAA violations for 2 years, they'll be able to put together a nice football program again. It's a rebuilding process and I'm a patient man :) |
Its funny - When did College Footballl Coaching become the pinnacle? They were talking about it this morning on Sirius NFL Radio - a little absurd. But the bottom line is he cant be a great coach if his heart is in something else. I wish the best of luck to Saban - and more importantly I cant wait to see the San Diego Chargers dominate in they playoffs.

TFG...I am GLAD they got him.
Because, there was a lot of speculation..that if Bama didn't get Saban..they were gonna go after Petrino of Louisville. |

So what do you think about him? TBH, he sort of put me off with all the denials, while he acted like everyone was an idiot for asking. I think most people suspected he'd make the move, but he didn't have to act like such a jackass about it. I know it's standard practice to keep your mouth shut until the deal is done, but he could have left it at "no comment". I'm sure it was probably a money thing, too, even though it was denied. He was just a little too smart-assy about it, imo. I also don't like the fact that he didn't show for the meeting/press conference this morning and told his coaches by speakerphone. I'm assuming he didn't meet with his players, either. Sort of gutless, if you ask me. Even though he didn't do so hot in the NFL, he did a great job at LSU and hopefully he'll get the Tide back on track. It's unacceptable to have a 6-7 record at a school like Bama, and I'm looking forward to them getting back in the game. I'm sure Muschamp is fired up, too. :upsidedow Two things for sure, though: 1- He still ain't as good looking as Shuuuu-la-la (who should have had one more year) 2- He still won't beat Tuberville We'll see you on The Plains come November. I can hardly wait. :Graucho |
