Most under rated band / unknown band

List a band that you think more people should know about, listen or be fans off...

Perhaps this way we can all get a few new bands to listen to and if nothing else it will broaden our knowledge of music..

I will go first:

Guano Apes -> some of the best numbers are "Open your eyes" and "Rain"

maxcarter101 01-03-2007 06:16 AM

The Beatles.

Proud like a God is a great album.

As for underated bands, I'd have to say:

40 Cycle Hum and Hydrovibe

J.P. 01-03-2007 07:37 AM

I agree on Guano Apes!

Is that the band with the bald black chick as the lead singer? I saw them open for someone a while back and I thought she had a very unique voice.

I'm going to have to go with Reverend Horton Heat. They have been around forever and tour non-stop but people still look at me like I farted every time I mention them. I always have fun at their live shows, and they will play anywhere from big festivals to little dive bars. You can't get a much better song than "Liquor, Beer, and Wine".

I love Anders Manga and have bought a couple of his CDs. His videos on this site are very cool too and I have tried contacting the guy to see if he would consider selling his videos on a DVD because i'd buy it... no luck yet :)

The Wildhearts.

One of their biggest tracks would have to be 29 X The Pain, inspired by Husker Du's 59 Times The Pain. Pretty much just a shoutout to bands they respect and have been influenced by. Even Stiff Little Fingers get props.
It's one of the songs available on their myspace profile.

Agreed, Alexisonfire and Dallas Green's solo project City and Colour.

I used to sit around in Dal's basement with him and his cousin and their bass player when they were a band called Helicon Blue. It's crazy to see someone from your small hometown get all famous and shit :thumbsup

yep they sadly split up in 2001 but and "skin" the bald female lead vocal went solo etc...

they did some good numbers on their 3 albums though..

Steve Carlson - he's LA based and has this great mix of jazzy, bluezy, a little country, just great music.

Here's a sample.

Aaargh! iTunes doesn't have it, what do I do? :winkwink:

chodadog 01-03-2007 10:41 AM

Some other bands that don't get enough credit:

Dog Fashion Disco
Dragonforce
Onedice
Our Lady Peace
Avenged Sevenfold

There's an incredible amount of metal bands that don't get nearly enough credit for their musical ability. Metal musicians simply can't get credit for what they do from people who aren't fans of metal. I've been talking with a friend of mine who thinks metal is shit. He's a drummer, and he insists that there's no talent in metal drumming. So I get him to listen to a band like Mastodon and even show him videos of some of Brann Dailor's solos and he just can't appreciate it because it's metal. He calls him sloppy. Metal musicians will never get the credit that's due to them.

jgabra62 01-03-2007 10:49 AM

I would have to agree with chodadog, I think Avenged Sevenfold and Dragonforce are 2 very underated metal bands, the songs are good and they are some of the most talented musicians I've heard in awhile.

My other picks for most underrated bands arent metal bands at all, but very good.

Fountains of Wayne
The Kooks
30 Seconds to Mars
Immaculate Mess (my band, lol)

Nice. Particularly agree with Clutch. Which sort of reminds me of some other bands that deserve some more recognition.

Monster Magnet
Gluecifer
On a Pale Horse

Closed Fist

My close friends' rock band back in HS.. :)

kane 01-04-2007 01:01 AM

one of my all time favorite bands is Grant Lee Buffallo. They broke up a while back, but they have some great records and never really got the recognition they deserved.

sassynaughtygirl 01-04-2007 01:08 AM

matt nathanson. he's a solo artist not a band, but still. he's my favorite. :)

check out his live shows on archive.org.
