Ray Kroc must be rolling over in his grave

Seriously. You may put MsDonald's down, but back in the day, McD's had quality fast food, at a great price, and standards.

By standards I mean such things as you would be hard pressed to find a cleaner restaurant, and their food was always fresh.

If a hot apple pie wasn't sold within 30 minutes, it was tossed.

Why do I bring this up? well, I just had a case of the munchies, nothing in the cupboards, and only some change on the dining room table. McD's is a quick blast down the street, so I grabbed a handful of dimes and headed over to pick up a couple "hot" apple pies, two for a dollar.

When I get home I open the first one and notice the "caution, filling is hot" was hardly applicable. Then I notice they have this "must use by" timestamp on it, and it isn't for another 4 1/2+ hours!

WTF? Are they now letting these things sit around for 5 fucking hours? I feel like writing a letter.

No more McDonald's for me . . . they are now relegated down to Denny's level.

I have to be honest . . . In N Out just doesn't do it for me. Don't really understand the fascination. It kind of reminds me of the days of when Coors wasn't available everywhere because of their brewing methods.

People wanted it because they couldn't have it. In reality, it was crap beer.

When I worked at McD's we used fresh potatoes. That is why they got the rep for the best fries around.

These frozen ones don't hold a candle to them.

After Shock Media 01-03-2007 01:46 AM

Well I would imagine heating technology has changed some since Ray was involved.

I personally am pissed about them not frying the fries in beef lard anymore.
While I am at it I do not care for the cardboard boxes either, I want the Styrofoam back.

I go to the In n Out in Sports Arena, it's always packed with people.
Ive never seen a restaurant that only served burgers & fries and nothing else. I love that as a business model. So simple.

yeah, I am sure it has changed, however, a pie can not sit 5 hours under a heat lamp for several hours and keep the good taste.

Styrofoam was eliminated for ecological reasons.

seeric 01-03-2007 01:49 AM

i agree. mcdonalds was the first job i ever had at age 16 in pennsylvania in 86.

the standards were so much higher back then. its terrible now. i remember people getting fired every other day becasue they couldnt hack it.

i dont eat there anymore. its a tragedy. you are correct. ray must be turning in the grave.

only spot that has kept its mantra to this day is in and out. imho.

whats that worth really? not even 2cents.

lol

Oh, they are all packed, from the moment they open until they close, no matter the location.

I worked there when the Big Mac, Filet-o-Fish and hot apple pie were first introduced.

Their sales pitch was a burger, fries and a coke for under a dollar.

No reason you listed for the stopping of using beef lard for the fries. That made a bigger difference than the fresh cut potato.

Fat Burger... now that's a meal I can get behind.

aico 01-03-2007 02:01 AM

I just watched Super Size me the other night, and I will never ever ever ever, ever ever ever, ever ever, eat a McDonalds again, or any fast food for that matter... that movie made me sick.

I think I have been to one once, possibly twice.

Too far away when compared to every fast food place under the sun being within 5 minutes of me.

I thought that came about after they started adding beef flavoring to the fries, much latter on.

MMM Denny's. No other place to go when you feel like being treated like shit and abused ...

This is such the king sheeple movie of all time.

Hint, if all you ever ate was salami and cheese sandwiches for 30 days straight you would see the same effects. Hell try just leafy green salads with no protiens for the same period and see what happens to you.

I am not a stockholder, so can only comment on what I am familiar with.

I did file a complaint with corporate though . . . will be interesting to read their response . . . maybe I will have some coupons to give away to the homeless soon.

ADL Colin 01-03-2007 08:04 AM

I'm having a Big Mac Attack! after reading this thread.

Jace 01-03-2007 08:06 AM

I completely agree

growing up mcdonalds was always a totally clean restaurant with pretty damn good food that was ALWAYS hot and fresh

now every mcdonalds that I go into to is a mess, almost never clean, and you only get hot fresh fries 1 out of 3-4 times

JUSTB 01-03-2007 08:23 AM

I am curious if you saw any pieces of actual apple in the pie?

bl4h 01-03-2007 08:33 AM

When I worked at mcdonalds (when i was 16) the rule was an hour I think. We threw a LOT away. It was a shame.

Youre bitching about how unfresh they are. The things are frozen and thrown into a bag and into a big box. When you open the box theyre all frozen together so you have to smack them around to break them free. Theyre probably months old by the time they get put into the oven. I just cant see why this would bother you :1orglaugh

4 hours isnt anything since theyre kept hot in a holding oven.

tony286 01-03-2007 08:35 AM

I bet those apple pies sit even longer

Agent 488 01-03-2007 08:38 AM

that movie made me hungry.
