Development and Programming schools in L.A.
 

i have a pretty decent working knowledge of development (html, php, scripting), enough to be able to function and get the job done.

what i want to do is enroll in a web development school like devry or something, get the knowledge i want, and get out. i don't care about a degree, that shit is worthless, all i want is the knowledge.

development and technical side is the thing i know least and what i want to strengthen this year.

anyone know of any good schools. specialized preferred. all i am finding is devry and itt.

i don't want any general education crap. i took all that already with my other college when i was in my 20's

google isn't my friend so far. maybe i'm searching the wrong KW phrases.

Have you scoped individual classes at local community colleges? You can skip the general ed crap and take what you want.

If you're willing to go at night, the instructors are often moonlighters who really know their shit (around here, anyway).

I think you would be better off just learning it on your own. Set yourself reasonable goals that you currently are not capable of doing and figure out a way of getting it done. That's how I went about things and it worked out pretty well for me. How things work in a classroom and the issues you'll have to deal with in the real world are different worlds.

thanks to you both. i think i just want to make sure i learn in the right order and all. i have no doubt i can teach myself. theres something to be said for cutting shortcuts that i dont need.

Went to westwood here. I hear University of Phoenix has online courses though...

As far as learning to code goes, just buy a book and start playing around, it's the best way to learn.

Don't bother with any of the local community colleges around here, most of the instructors ain't that good and don't give a shit. Just pick up a book yourself and ask questions if you don't understand.

i've been using lynda.com for over a year now and love it. about $250 a year and you get unlimited classes. learn at your own pace. they even have a SEO course :)

i always buy a book... read the first 5 or 6 chapters through and do the projects they give... by the time you're that far in you can pretty much give yourself a small "real world project" and have enough understanding of what you're using to be able to use the book as a reference

and if you need pointers / help www.experts-exchange.com for 9 bucks a month is awesome

this is def an option. i figure that since i am never leaving this biz i might as well learn everything there is to know. programming and advanced web dev is about the only thing i can't do.

might as well take out any weakness i have, well besides my big mouth and it's ability to get me into trouble. LOL.
