Any parents with a colicky baby?

Its a nightmare! I haven't slept for 3 days and its really awful. Have tried some meds and I just picked a new one today that I'm hoping could help.

Have anyone tried the The SleepTight? (sort of vibrator that you fit under the bed) .. supposed to be heavily recommended in the US but its $400 up here so kinda wanna check with people before I order...

Violetta 01-01-2007 03:57 PM

auch.... not good! Hope things get better! Let me know if you want me to come over and do some babysitting! :)

MattO 01-01-2007 03:58 PM

One word: benadryl

KingK7 01-01-2007 04:00 PM

Vi hadde det, men det var ikke så ille heldigvis, og det gikk over ganske fort.
Men fryktelig når de skriker sånn...

I would not reccomend any meds other than if the doctor has prescribed them. However, there are some safe gas relief meds & you can help relieve the baby's gas, which is one of the sypmtoms.

Try changing the nipples and bottle,, colic can sometimes be brought on by the baby sucking in air during feeding,

We switched to Vent Aire & the problem's been resolved,

Usually, a baby is colicy when he/she needs to burp but it won't come out,,

Instead of patting for burping, try rubbing his/her back.. starting from bottom & gently rubbin up towards shoulders to try to coerce the burp out of him/her

Yeah, thats what we did, I really think that helped!

PurrrsianPussyKat 01-01-2007 04:09 PM

Get some mylicon.. it's for gas.
What are you feeding the baby?
If it's formula, she could be allergic to something in it.
If it's breast fed, something mom ate could be bothering it.
(Things like milk, broccoli, etc)

I'd suggest a baby swing or vibrating seat before a $400 thing that makes the bed vibrate. Swings and seats have some kind of evil power over babies and no matter how cranky they are, they'll fall asleep. I suggest you do to! As soon as you put the baby in the swing, lay down.

believe me.. I've tried most things.. but when you've rubber, patted and walked for hours and miles it gets really frustrating.. if that helped you guys, you had it pretty easy :/ our guy keeps crying all day and all night

lack of sleep is just awful... trying a safe gas relief meds that was recommend by a local midwife and he's actually been sleeping for a couple... if he keeps it up 20 more mins thats a new record

only breast feeding and she's given up most things.. anything from milk to bread to all sorts of things.. is the vibrator thing recommended in the US like the ads say or is it just a promo?

Yeah - from 4 years ago - it was about 18 to 24 months of pure hell. I honestly didn't think I was going to survive.

Two things helped, but not a lot:
-Mylicon Drops - really helped degass the baby which helped the endless crying: http://www.mylicon.com/

-Vibrating bouncy reclining seat (not a full fledged crib vibration, but really helpful to get them to mellow out enough to go to sleep)
http://www.toysrus.com/sm-baby-papas...i-2265153.html
(lots of different kinds out there.)

Good luck. This too shall pass.

bizman2960 01-01-2007 04:13 PM

No kiddie stuff on this forum! ;)

porn blogger 01-01-2007 04:14 PM

why would you put a vibrator in your kids bed?

umm... my neice has been going through the same thing... totally fucked up new years for brother and sister in law... what a boner killer right?

you don't put in IN the bed, but UNDER the bed :) the one I'm looking at simulates a car-ride basically..

Jensen 05-02-2007 08:05 AM

right... back after a week at the hospital... done tons of tests on the poor little guy and it seemes that he is allergic to mothersmilk (yep yep, no kidding)...

5 months of screaming and problems seemes to be gone after he was put on a diet... costs me $118 per can and the can lasts for little over 2 days... :/

Murderous 05-02-2007 08:06 AM

According to the 11 o'clock news, shaking the shit out of them seems to shut them up.

WarChild 05-02-2007 08:07 AM

Gripe water.

Jensen 05-02-2007 08:11 AM

you guys posting might wanna actually read the whole thread.. especially the updated part :)

Glad you got a solution to the sleepless nights.

BTW.. if/when it is colic that someone is dealing with, the best thing in the world is warm herbal peppermint tea. Worked wonders through both of mine (oh so many years ago.

PK

That usually helps, but you mostly have to just wait it out. I was colick and in addition had night terrors and was a sleepwalker! In fact, most people I know who were colick suffered from the same things.

I feel bad for ya, nothings worse than a baby who screams hysterically non-stop!

Good luck!

Girpe water is actually a peppermint extract aswell. Works wonders, even for adults :)

RP Fade 05-02-2007 08:22 AM

We switched to Enfamil - Gentlease and seems to be better. We also use these drops called 'Mylicon' which you can mix into the formula.

Jensen 05-02-2007 08:32 AM

and when we finally thought our problems were over he's starting to get his first teeths... yesus.. will it ever end...

chief99 05-02-2007 08:32 AM

glad to hear you found the problem
my son was the same way and once I took him off his moms milk and put him on Enfalac baby formula he was fine.
it was hell for awhile there, I even found a sign to hang on the wall.
it had a big circle on that said "when frustrated bang head here untill unconsiouse - repeat when needed".

Sosa 05-02-2007 08:46 AM

Jensen, glad you got it solved. Now let the little guy grow up and get those teeth in!

Violetta 05-02-2007 09:18 AM

SmokeyTheBear 05-02-2007 09:47 AM

yep :) we've tried to get him to hospital for months and we tried to talk them into trying different things... luckily they tried one more thing and it worked... don't have the numbers for how many that is actually allergic to mothers milk but the docs seemed to shake their heads over it so I guess few...

neocate is expensive stuff so I hope to get some refunds eventually... thank god that the money in this biz is good!

well one of my kids didnt like breastmilk the same way for the first few months it complained all the time, once we switched to formula it was happy and content, we didnt check if he was allergic but could have been.. so maybe your kid doesnt need the expensive stuff , just needed something more filling..

Murderous 05-02-2007 03:21 PM

I like breasts... taste great and less filling ;)

macromind 05-02-2007 03:30 PM

Try putting him on his belly on the clothing dryer and start it, the vibration will help the gas move in the intestine. Also, one thing that has always worked to get him to sleep is to go for a car ride... the vibration once again will put him to sleep. One last thing, ask your wife to put the baby on her belly so that they are facing each other and it usually did the job too. Good Luck, I thank the universe everyday that we got out of that 6 months ago!

selena 05-02-2007 03:37 PM

I am glad you found a solution. The munchkin was colicky, and I thought I would lose my mind. He screamed 8-9 hours at a stretch. I'm ashamed to say that it gave me some pretty evil thoughts about him at times.

Thankfully we both survived it.
