We've talked about burger joints...Now how bout a haircut franchise?
 

In the neverending pursuit of businesses to put money into outside of the porn industry I've been looking into two possibles:

1. Haircut shop franchsie, i.e., "Great Clips"

2. Neighborhood Laundromats

The Great Clips and Great Cuts haircut shops in my neighborhood (So Cal) see about 100 people a day, at an average ticket of $12. So monthly gross is over $30K, with rent/labor/franchise fee/advertising/etc taking about $15K of the $30K. Not huge by any means, but get five to ten shops going and the math gets attractive.

Only negative is the startup cost/time, which is about $125K and six months. Breakeven takes about a year to a year and half once the biz ramps up to the level mentioned above.

The Laundromat idea seems nice, quick, and dirty, especially because they're best in low income neighborhoods where rent is low. Labor is almost nonexistant if you want to be a little hands on, if not you hire someone to "manage" the day to day for less than $30K a year. To open the doors with a good assortment of machines costs about $30 to $50K, which means that initial costs are low.

Ive recently thinking about the same thing...I have been looking into franchises, and trying to think of great ideas. Restaurants, fast food, all those cost a ton of money to start. I was thinking a Rita's Ice, but they are seasonable, and want a 10 year investment. If you come up with any ideas, let me know. Im in NJ.

the beauty of barber shops/salons is that your just renting out the booths to the barbers,, they actually pay you for supplies and rent,, cuz reality is the better they are the more business they get,,

Forget the salon, you'll fail. It isn't easy and most fail fast. Do the laundromat... buy a fast food place... or open a mail boxes etc.

I have considered opening a chain (like hair cuttery). But the twist is it will be called "Topless" and of course all the beauticians
will be very hot babes???....This has been a real consideration for a long time now. :thumbsup

Liquor store. Even a small one can make tons and tons of cash.

I just want to put out a big warning sign about opening up a food franchise. I used to own 2 Dunkin Donuts shops in NY and it was nutso. Never open something that is open 24/7 and requires tons of low-skilled labor to make it function. There are always labor issues that zap every ounce of your energy and things manage to go to shit several times a day every day.

With laundramats, I see there are a lot that do a combo with some other idea to help people occupy their time while the load is spinning (like a bar, video arcade...).

i don't know, local barber shops have always been the place where most men like to hangout and talk shit, at least thats how it is here,

but a topless car wash is really something i'd consider:)

Go with the coin-op laundry.

I know a dude that runs several in my city...does at least a Mil a year on them.

Hire a local to do the cleanup and watch the place at night. Most of the time people don't mess with your machines...but if you don't have someone around they get the idea they can trash the place.

Good money maker ...and it is a cash biz :thumbsup

i highly suggest checking out a subway franchise,as am I... have a few more years of credit to build up being that I'm so young... but they were rated #1 over Mcdonalds in success ratio lastyear

and Yeah whoever said bringing in a mil running coin opted washing machines is right,An uncle of a friend of mine is brining in those figures...

also regular food/soda/candy machines... you can buy the machines and lease spaces at bars and restaurants...

I plan on having a few mil in the bank by the time I'm 25 :)

Well I cant argue about hair cuts and food and subway I never had one of those but its now going to be my 4th year operating a nice size coin-op/arcade/redemption business you can finance all machines (ICQ me for contacts) and the cash in it is amazing compared to the initial investment out of pocket.

I got 17 machines 5 just video games and the rest those skill based machines that spit tickets out that can be exchanged for teddy bears or electronics.

Escort, when you say you operate a "coin-op/arcade/redemption business" are you talking about a walk in store with mechanical games that is targetted to kids? If so do you provide food service or is it a small place...just curious.

We don't have many of those in Southern Cali, but we do have an absolute shitload of large size hispanic families that out source their laundry, meaning they take it to coin-op laundromats. Most of our low end apartments out here don't even have a damn room or center with a few machines for tennants to use. You're on your own mom!

I'm not sure if it's best to pair the coin-op laundromat idea with an internet cafe/arcade/other business for a higher age demographic target, or if it's recommended to just go dirt cheap with a damn 19" TV mounted on the cieling and that's it baby.
