Plasma or LCD TV
I'm trying to decide between a Samsung 40" LCD flatscreen TV, or a Samsung 42" Plasma flatscreen TV. They're both the same price, but what makes the LCD so much better? The salesman at best buy said it's just personal preference, but I've heard different arguments. Anyone have/had both and prefer one over the other for any significant reason?
|
On a side note, I think it's funny as hell that the "Salesman" told you it's just a personal preference. If he had fucking taken 15 minutes out of his meanlingless fucking life to learn the difference between the two maybe he would have made a fucking sale that day.

I would rather lcd. Plasma screens cost around about the cost price to repair any screen fuck-ups. LCD Have just as good in my oppinion

And for those too lazy to read it. It says Plasma is better becauase LCD has a problem with the color Black, Plasma creates a more true black, therefore has a better contrast. Also Plasma has a larger viewable angle than LCD. So Plasma seems to be the winner. |
That's an old story. The blacks on LCD are fine now. LCDs last longer and are less expensive to repair if necessary. Plus the lifetime of an LCD is still double that of a plasma.
They're both good, but plasma is just more widely known. I personally have a 55" LCD and love it. |
Get an LCD, it's better ...
|
Plasma...........
|
Had the same decision to make and got the LCD - a 42" from Philips and I can't say that I regret the decision.
No problems at all with black or viewing angle. LCD lasts longer and has no problems with "stills burning in"... From what I've read and heard, LCD is ahead of the game at this point. So I'd go for a LCD - a 42" LCD is also probably still cheaper than a 42" Plasma. |
LCD man just by it

Depends how often you change TV's... Plasma will last you 5 or 6 years at best, then it will go down hill... If you change tv's often, plasma is better.. if you want something to last, LCD.
|
Another plus on the LCD side is lower power consumption.

LCD all the way! www.hottvnews.com . . . |
Plasma TVs last only about half as long as LCDs and cost about the same amount. So the choice is pretty clear to me.

"The danger of an image "burning" into a plasma screen and appearing as a "ghost" over other images was always a bit overblown, and newer technologies have rendered it a nonissue. The latest generation of plasmas are engineered to last 60,000 hours?or the equivalent of watching TV 24/7 for the next 23 years?before suffering any serious burn-in or losing half their brightness. In other words, if you're watching that much television, burn-in is the least of your problems." |

I would hope if i spent $1000 plus on a tv that it would last more than 5-6 years. I remember when stuff was actually made to last.
I like the LCD pictures better...my hubby tried to tell me the projection tv is the way to go after viewing the two side by side..I realized..he is blind and will listen to whatever his retarded friends tell him..geesh, there was no comparison ...projection Tv's suck. |
Whatever you get, buy the warranty and insure it.

lcd all the way

I just bought a 42' Samsung PLASMA!
|
I went Plasma, when you view a Plasma and LCD side by side you won't want the LCD.
|
I have a 32" LCD and two 42" plasma TVs. I have the LCD in my bedroom and i do notice some pixel trails on fast moving images. Now on the Plasma ( to be honest I still have both in the box.. I just hooked one up to the HD box to check it out but haven't set them up on the wall yet... I only watched it for about an hour) The pic on Plasma did seem sharper and I didn't get the Pixel trails. Everyone talks about the plasma's live span .. LCD's have about 60,000 hours in them and a plasma has about 30,000 to 60,000 hours. I don't know about you but I don't have them running 24/7 and by the time the plasma starts to lose it's sharp colors I'll be buying something new. I don't think i ever had a TV for more then 5 years in the past and these don't loose the quality till about 7 years. I'm happy with both but i think the Plasma wins for the larger size TV's

We just bought a LCD
|
I have a 40 inch Samsung tv and I love it :)

you hould go with lcd has plasmas can have burn-in if you play scoreboard games etc |
Coke or Pepsi??
McDonald's or Burger King?? Blond's or Brunettes? LCD or Plasma... Fuck it man. Do as I do, and do em all. |
Newer LCD?s with LED backlighting are nearly as good as Plasma in terms of quality in black reproduction. LCD also has a far superior lifespan than a Plasma, so at this point I?d have to recommend LCD over Plasma. Also considering SED TV?s are due out sometime next year, there is really little reason to get Plasma now.

says LCD has a bigger viewangle: Up to 175° and plasma only Up to 160° also Quote:
think the 30%-40% less power usage of the LCD might be an argument for the LCD |
LCD is the way to go. i think most Plasma's last on 60,000hrs and then it's time to get a new one. And like a bunch of other ppl have said, LCD is was cheaper to fix if you ever encounter a problem
|
LCD.......:thumbsup
|
I ended up with a 40 inch samsung lcd :)
|
I received a Panasonic 42" plasma (TH-42PX60U) for Christmas (manufactured dec. 2006 even) and it's a million times better than my old first generation plasma.
New one has ultra-black blacks, no more burn-in problem compared to old models. I'm very pleased with it to say the least. Impressive in HD as well. |
LCD no doubt. I just got new LCD Samsung with full hi definition and it rocks
|
i bought a 50 inch panasonic plasma
super sharp picture plus lcd still have the 8ms delay , so if you see a movie with fast actions the lcd will hack.. |

I'm personally thinking of buying a new tv soonish too, and I'm probably going to get a LCD.. not 100% decided yet. |
LCD resolution is always better than resolution on Plasma
|
plasma is fine for gaming...unless your playing pacman 24-7, newer games dont leave the same image on the screen the whole time. Anyway plasma burn in is temporary. LCDs can sometimes be slow for gaming although either are good not trying to be a plasma fan-boy there are just so many myths
|
LCD:
better resolution less power - 600W for a tv is just wrong less heat, less noise from fans no burn-in the upcoming LED backlight will make them even better |
I would go with LCD at the moment. SED is coming out too soon to really buy a Plasma.
|
LCD for sure...
|
here you go...
buy from a place that lets you try it for 30 days and exchange it for store credit, then try the other one for 30 days and decide. |
