Running an online store....
I got a job running the online merchandise store for a music group selling tshirts, cds, vinyl, etc. i need some kinda program to keep track of inventory and record all the sales that i do, etc. what program do you guys think i should use?
|
Excel.
|
Since you dont even seem to know what prog to use, I suggest you quit now and save yourself from all this humiliation of getting fired!
P.S: I would use Notepad |
haha notepad. i already know how to use excel and access, i was just wondering if there was a better program out there.
|
I use Access to process my orders. Works well. What shopping cart are you going to use?

Hi,
Paypal is a decent option as a secondary processor. However you should have a system that gives you customized reporting interfaces, variable fraud scrubbing, customizable receipts with upsells, check processing as well as credit card processing and daily settlements, etc... Give us a call to discuss your options and check out http://www.netbilling.com . Thank you, Mitch Farber |
http://www.buildpage.com full accounting backend to handle all of your inventory and will even email you when certain items hit a re-order level...

I use paypal for both ADULT and MAINSTREAM transactions, and I get full accountability, as well paypal scrubs very well for selling tangible goods .... bottom line is, if you don't have the money on your card or in your paypal account ... you don't get the goods ... plain and simple. PayPal accounts - another good reason to use paypal - you'd be surprised how many people actually have a paypal account Mitch ... and keep a balance in them too !! I have been with paypal almost since it began ... and trust them more than my bank ... go figure ! Nice spam Mitch ... but it is my duty to call bullshit on it !! |
If your just looking to setup a basic databse of all your records and stuff which you will insert manually, than may I suggest: http://www.filemaker.com/ , its great for these kind of stuff... you gotta learn how to use it though... kinda like access only I like it better... :winkwink:

thanks for the advice everyone. the reason im using paypal is because the groups manager had the paypal account setup already and wanted to use it. i personally dont like how you cant customize it very much, but its not up to me. if anyone would like to review the site for me its http://www.d-12.com

Hungryman, I dont think mitch gives a shiny elephants ass if you agree with him about anything or not, lol.

R3K,
I do value everyones opinion but do feel Hungryman is way off. Paypal is ok if you do not need a robust solution or great support etc.... "Big business" does not use it for primary processing. Paypal is not even allowed in some states. I'm not saying they are not a good solution, but certainly not the most robust or flexible. No custom reporting, no variable fraud scrubbing, no 24/7/365 live support, non-customization... and the list goes on and on; not to mention the hundreds of complaints the FTC gets every day. Basically, if you do not need control, they will probably work for you. But I can think of 10 or 15 better solutions. Companires like us, Glo-bill, Websitebilling, CCbill, Epoch ect... are successful not just because we process transactions but because we care. I would not want my $$$ being handledd by a public company that could give a shit about my business, would you? Have a great night. Mitch |
