I got those two 42" Plasma's that I ordered last week .....

I know a lot of guys say LCD ..LCD but I needed a few TV's for some extra rooms (playroom and extra bedroom ) .. last week Amazon was having a sale on a 42" plasma (made by a lower brand name but I don't give a shit...sylvania 42" plasma) it retails for $1499 and was on sale for $699 plus free shipping ($65). I said what the fuck and bought 2 for that price. They still have a few but they are now $899. Well they came today and I hooked one up to the HD box via the component input and it looked great. I know they have a shelf life of 6-8 years or something but I'm sure I'll be buying some new style TV by then.

People knocked the deal but I don't think it can be beat ....:2 cents:

the one i took out i boxed back up. They are sitting in my dining room (wife's not happy about that) I'm having a lot of work done on the house and the rooms that they are going in are still being painted and we are in the middle of putting a master suite / bathroom and office upstairs. I won't be installing them for another 2-3 weeks. but it will be easy to run the wiring with everything being open ..:thumbsup

NinjaSteve 12-28-2006 08:08 PM

Those were the 480P sets, right? I would have spent the extra $ and got something that would display in 720P or higher. Great deal for a bedroom set though I guess.

These are the specs

Product Features
42" plasma TV
HD compatible, 16.7 million color display
16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, 1000:1 contrast ratio
852 x 480 pixel resolution
41.68 x 4.56 x 26.69 (L x W x H)
Component Input Format 720p/1080i/480p/480i

The 1000:1 Contrast Ratio was the only thing I was worried about because people said that was low. to be honest I just moved over to HD Tv so it's all good to me. I don't watch a ton of TV (to the point that I'm a movie buff or could appreciate the top quality out there) Plus the fact that my 9 year old should be happy he has a TV in the play room at all ..:1orglaugh all I had growing up was a 13" and i was happy it was color ...:thumbsup

evildick 12-28-2006 08:42 PM

Ya, 852 x 480 basically limits you to 480P. Still an awesome deal though. They are great sets for the price. The kids sure won't be complaining. :winkwink:

reynold 12-28-2006 10:59 PM

just_beginner 12-28-2006 11:50 PM

great deal... congrats :thumbsup

flashfire 12-29-2006 02:24 AM

nice, I got a no-name plasma on boxing day for $900...its 720p and looks as good as any I have seen. Sometimes people put too much stock in the brand name, how many companies do you think are actually making plasma panels?

Violetta 12-29-2006 02:27 AM

I just ordered one myself... It was Samsung though!

JFK 12-29-2006 03:01 AM

Sylvania, is not really a no name, they have been around for ages, but not as well promoted as other leading brands.

salesman 12-29-2006 03:09 AM

wow, that was a pretty good deal, man
nut i think the resolution is low, those must be old models or what

I have both, a 37"lcd and a 50" plasma and ill take the plasma anyday over the LCD. Picture is wayyyy brighter and much crisper, and Direct TV HD looks amazing on the Plasma. BTW I get HD Plasmas and LCD's (1081i) for what you paid for the EDTV model. Everyone i know, now has a LCD or Plasma cause i get them for so cheap.

Jensen 12-29-2006 06:17 AM

I like to have a TV in every room but the formal living room. I have a fire place there and my wife won't let me put one over it. she hates having the TV on when we have friends over .. I don't use all of them but if i want to watch TV in the bedroom it's nice to have a 32" LCD with HD .. and the 42"'s are bigger then i need in the extra bedroom and playroom but at that price it was worth it. I paid more then that for the 32"

Jessica Rosalini 12-29-2006 05:26 PM

that is a great deal. I wish i would have seen that deal sooner
