So I've Been Taking Daily Wheatgrass Shots...

And I have to say that only after a few I can feel the difference.

It's not as bad as everyone made it seem and when chased with OJ, it's actually good. Couldn't drink a whole drink of it though.

Anyone else drink this daily? Results?

JFK 12-28-2006 08:26 AM

Kristin , what's it in aid of ?

kristin 12-28-2006 08:27 AM

I've been taking it because I don't like veggies and this is your daily veggies in a 1 oz. shot.

Then it also helps clear up acne, build your immune system, etc.

Vegas Ken 12-28-2006 08:37 AM

I love wheatgrass. At first it tastes like ground up grass taken straight from the lawnmower. However after a short time it begins to taste sweet. Kinda funny.

You are right kristin, it is a great way to get some great nutrition.

Gentle_Ben 12-28-2006 08:39 AM

really good for your body. good for you!

spazlabz 12-28-2006 08:42 AM

wow..... I cannot even imagine trying this.

unless you said something like;

"AMAZING NEW WEIGHT LOSS MIRACLE!! a shot of wheat grass each and every day has been proven to effect the bodies ability to process fatty lipids, one shot a day and you will be losing weight like...."

I'd be laying wheat grass sod out back in like 15 minutes flat! hahaha

WebairGerard 12-28-2006 08:50 AM

it really is great and you do start to feel good overall after just a few days

Cyndalie 12-28-2006 08:54 AM

"That's great...if you want to be sober and vomit"

:)

I'm not sure I could swallow that stuff. But glad to hear you are feeling good!

CX* 12-28-2006 09:11 AM

I drink 4-8oz every day, depending on what the rest of my day looks like.

There are so many benefits it's crazy...

Tanker 12-28-2006 09:21 AM

4 tablespoons of Hemp hearts daily will do your body good too.

Wanderlust 12-28-2006 09:24 AM

Where do you get this?

AZSarah 12-28-2006 09:34 AM

I do a shot of wheat grass most nights after I leave the gym.
There is a Jamba Juice next door & they have it there.
The taste has never bothered me & now I even like it. It does start to taste sweet once you are used to it so it's easy to swallow:winkwink:

Jamba Juice .. a smoothie shop. It's a $1.35 and I have replaced my morning venti latte from Starbucks with this. Much cheaper and much healthier!

Wow, you are a human lawnmower!

BitAudioVideo 12-28-2006 09:39 AM

wheatgrass alternative.

vodka distilled from wheat and a little bit of grass.

?The reality is that grass and wheatgrass have no known medicinal qualities for humans. Only cud-chewing animals with multiple stomachs can properly digest grass to absorb its nutrients. Even though we can decide to liquefy wheatgrass into a juice we still can not benefit from it. Comprised mainly of chlorophyll, it is not essential for human health.?

?Enzymes are complex protein molecules produced by living organisms exclusively for their own use in promoting chemical reactions. Orally ingested enzymes are digested in the stomach and have no enzymatic activity in the eater.?

?chlorophyll cannot "detoxify the body" since it is not absorbed. Although it is conceivable that enzymes present in rectally-administered wheatgrass juice could have chemical activity, there is no evidence that this is beneficial.?

Broccoli is a better choice.

Ma'am you have hippies ...

Hehe. Actually, I think I'm turning more hippie. I got my VW and Mac just recently then I'm one of the few people with an MBA who is anti-corporations (to some extent) and now wheatgrass!

cool1 12-28-2006 09:51 AM

wheatgrass rocks
I usually have it added to my fruit juice smoothies along with a couple of other boosters

I have maybe the weakest stomach that I know of ... I actually asked the lady if I was gonna vom and she said yes if I have a weak stomach. So I was pretty sure I was gonna lose my cookies ... but nope, went down like a champ and like I said, the OJ really kills the taste.

:1orglaugh Gotta get that fibre!

OzMan 12-28-2006 12:27 PM

I take it occasionally at the gym..gotta chase it with a berry juice though.

It seems to make me feel better, whether that is because it works or as a placebo because I think it works doesn't really matter.

Everyone I have given it to usually dry retches unless they have an immediate chaser.

you believe it helps.
you believe you feel a difference
you attribute that "difference" to wheatgrass

thats why you feel a difference.

at the end of the day, it most likely does zero for you on a physiological level. your body requires water, protein, fats, carbs and the essential minerals and vitamins for proper function. either it possesses one or more of those things which should already be a part of your diet, or it doesn't.

TG Rebecca 12-28-2006 03:04 PM

good for you!!

sounds awesome. i doubt i would be able to stick to it, but maybe i should give it a shot. ;)

I can totally agree with this, it could be a placebo effect, but either way it's working.

well... what i said wasn't totally accurate. of course there are many chemical compounds that are found naturally and act in different ways in the body, some with negative and some with positive benefits. its the claims and myths that go unchecked.

i have these arguments constantly with my wife. :)

i realized that regardless of science, biology, bio chemistry and simple facts of physiology... in the end, she believes... and that in itself, is beneficial in my view. not only that, she's 27 and still looks 18, so i find that i losing my arguments every year. as long as the psuedo science and quackery does not become a substitute for proper diet and exercise and is not dangerous... then i think its totally fine :)

After Shock Media 12-28-2006 03:34 PM

Um on a serious note. Skip the wheat grass specially if you think it is a vegetable replacement. You would be much better off with some v-8 style juices (home made). Then as Tanker said look into hemp hearts and seriously consider adding in some oatmeal to your diet (not instant either).

I agree :)
There was a debate in my bio and chem class about wheatgrass, and regardless of the science it makes people seem to feel better and doesnt do any harm, so thats good in any case.

Yes and I don't rely on this to make me healthy and everything ... I have started back at the gym and starting to eat better in general. This was just a good, easy substitute for my morning coffee. Either way, it has to be better than Starbucks.

And AfterShockMedia ... I like V8 but only when it has vodka, horseradish, worchester sauce, and lots of tabasco in it!

aico 12-28-2006 03:49 PM

Cows eat grass all day, and they are fat and lazy.

Vodka typically has no taste so try it without the vodka as a wake me up.

Have them blend the shot into a smoothie, and have the smoothie replace a meal (such as breakfast). In the right smoothie the wheatgrass shot adds a really good flavor.
