Lost my dog yesterday :(

After 14 years together my dog died in my arms yesterday... needless to say it not's fun burying a member of your family on Christmas day, I'm a total mess and this is one christmas I just want to forget but we had to try and make the best of it just for the kids, we had to tell the kids last night because they asked to go see her... I think she took a stroke or something on Chrismas Eve and lost total control of her right side!

I told the kids there are no more pets... if it breathes it's not coming into the house!

sorry to hear man, i know that would kill me too. my dog is 13 and ive had him since he was 5 weeks old.

i know for sure ill have another dog once he is gone tho, probably within a week.

go to the humane society or the pound and save a dog from certain death.

Sorry to hear about your pooches demise. I know when the day comes that one of my babies passes, I will be a wreck.

You know the kids will talk you into another pet soon.

Merry X-mas... as much as its worth...

WebairGerard 12-26-2006 10:52 AM

been down that road too and it sucks big time. pets are part of the family and its very hard to lose them. i agree with post above though, once you give yourself some time to heal a bit head to the pound and save a dog or cat from certain death.

Sorry to hear about your dog. :( Merry Christmas and best wishes for the coming year. I've lost my fair share of pets, as a child my uncle used to say there was a "6 month curse" no pet lasted more than 6 months in our house. He even told my dog Sumo that, after we had him almost a year, and the damn dog ran away the next day, never to be seen again. Evenually, we tried again, and had the next dog for many years til I went off to college and gave it to my aunt. She took care of her, til the dog passed last summer, at 15 yrs old. So I can sympathize with your loss. Having a pet that long, makes it more like a family member.

Give it some time and when the right pet comes along, you'll know.

Best of luck!

My condolences. I know how it feels to loose a dog......

Magix 12-26-2006 12:44 PM

sry about the dog, people always think that it's easy when the pet dies, but it is as hard as loose some of your kindreds

xenilk 12-26-2006 12:46 PM

My condolences. I have 2 labs and I know what it must feel like..

frank7799 12-26-2006 12:50 PM

Iīve got two Labs and yes, itīs sad. But thatīs life and you should think about a new pet again. At least youīll learn how to deal with death and thatīs one advantage of having a pet. So the kids are prepared to deal with life later.:2 cents:

I just put mine down 2 weeks ago. It's a feeling that can't be described unless you've had a dog and know that bond. I'm still a mess over the whole thing at times.

What makes me feel better is to know that he lived a great life. I'm sure your dog did too and considering the alternatives that his life could have had had you not gotten him, it is a blessing that he was able to live such a great life.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss and know no words will make you feel better. Like any death, it just takes time.

tony286 12-26-2006 04:41 PM

Sorry to hear I dread the day it happens to my oldest

DateDoc 12-26-2006 04:57 PM

So sad :(

E$_manager 12-26-2006 04:58 PM

I am so sorry! On such holiday!

My brother woke up today, went out to the yard and found his dog with head damaged, blood on it. Looks like someone was trying to get in the yard. But the dog is o'k now - a vet made a little surgery and it is alright now.

Smurfette 12-26-2006 06:11 PM

Thanks guys for the condolences. Its been a long year with the dog being attacked by a german shepard then going blind and losing her hearing to having diabetes since Feb. I know alot of people looked at us saying its just a dog but after having her for so long shes like having another kid. Thanks again.

She lived a great life and you are right unless you have a dog it's really hard to understand just what kind of loss it is... but after I made this post today I felt better for some reason, at least I'm not a total mess like I was for the last 24-36 hours

Smurfette said last week that she was waiting for Christmas day and I never would of guessed that she would be so right, I guess she picked a day to make sure that we would never forget her

Once again thanks for all the kind words!

shekinah 12-26-2006 06:25 PM

Sorry to hear that, me too had lost many dogs. I don't know why some of my fuckin' neighbors poisoned them, maybe they're just envious or something.

Such incident is indeed so heartbreaking; especially if you've been so emotionally attached to the creature..
