i take all my snowboarding photos with my pentax wp10, it's just a little pocket sportcam, but it STILL takes really sick photos if you know anything about taking a good picture, and you can slip it in your pocket and ride without having to pack around a pile of equipment, which is a big bonus when you're heading out into the trees for some impromptu jibfests and backcountry fun...

word of advice, never use your own cameras. always rent them and get insurance on them. pro shops will also rent you the bags that cover them for use in the snow.

One of my dreams has always been to produce snowboarding videos...

Kinda offtopic, but I just thought I'd throw that out there :1orglaugh I want to be the next Warren Miller.

I'll be on the hill every day this year, so I want to use my own stuff.

I'll just go easy when I'm shooting.

Any tips?

As I have yet to purchese this beauty you sport. it would check out some of the Zoom lenses that are available. Not being able to get that good close up sucks big balls.

Try out the Nikon AF-S DX VR 18-200 mm. At f5.6 @200mm it's not a bad budget broad-range zoom at all.

I have a Nikkor 80-200mm f2.8D ED, which is a real nice low-medium budget zoom, but a real kickass zoom is the Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8G ED-IF (retails ~$1500) - probably not the best out there, but it isn't far from.

Get a VR lens whatever you do.

fuck nikon.. get canon....
get wide glass and get in close.. dangerously close... or your shit will look like everyone elses. I used to shoot mtn bike and snowboard stuff... had an assistant that would never get close enough with the remote flash. now the fucker is shooting for alot of major mags... and HE's getting dangerously close. heh.. that's where the fun is. take the viewer into the shot don't use long glass unless there is a reason, well, like cowardice.

:thumbsup this is what makes good extreme sports photography. I knew a guy from Britain who was a rally photographer, and he was apparantly the most suicidal crazy fucker around, would stay on a given gravel turn for several seconds after everyone else had ran away, just to get the perfect drift shot, before diving out of the way himself.
