Spunky 12-24-2006 10:31 PM

Very soon aswell as the Americans if they want to travel to Canada

evildick 12-24-2006 10:32 PM

They keep postponing every year. Last I heard was that you were gonna need it by January 1, 2007. I think they may have postponed it again as I haven't heard about anyone scrambling to get one this month.

I think I remember you asking about it this time last year as well . :1orglaugh

Get one, then the world is yours. :winkwink:

This article is current as of November 2006. It says you have until Jan 23, 2007 to get a passport if you intend on entering the US by AIR. Looks like you can still drive across the border without a problem.

I think its sometime towards the end of january that they will finalize that law

stev0 12-24-2006 11:06 PM

From what I heard you'll need one pretty quick for crossing the border both ways

Only if your going by air. Land crossings are later. I'm just not sure when, Better to just get them. Americans will need them to get back in too. Coming to Canada all is the same.

Pipecrew 12-25-2006 11:59 AM

apparently the wait time to get a passport in canada right now is astronomical.

polish_aristocrat 12-25-2006 12:02 PM

funny that in the same time Europe becomes more and more border free

4Man 12-25-2006 12:58 PM

I think they need it.

A lot of bad info in this thread. My wife is Canadian and she just flew back to Canada for Christmas so we have done a lot of research on this one.

You will need a passport to come into the USA from ANYWHERE outsite the US-50 by air effective January 23, 2007 (Mexico and Canada included). The same holds true if you are a US citizen leaving the country then coming back in. You have until January 1, 2008 if you are driving across. Kids are not exempt either - they need one also.

Though it has been pushed back and pushed back, January 23rd is the final date for air travel - period.

bizman2960 12-25-2006 01:39 PM

Definitely don't chance crossing any border without it these days.

Superbencher 12-26-2006 10:46 AM

Wait till the Democrats come back into power in 2008, this stupid passport rule will be thrown out along with the Republicans

Your dumb ass needs to come down to the border and see what goes on first hand.

And quit bitching about something that your life style depends on.

starpimps 12-26-2006 04:11 PM

better get your passport soon

IWantU_Jeff 12-26-2006 04:29 PM

I think if flying you need your passport no matter what as of next month.
Driving there was a delay, but it could be extended from what Ive heard. Since a lot of trucking company drivers have always used the license & stuff like that which was always accepted. But Im not totally sure. My ex's dad drives trucks & had been explaining (errr bitchin bout) it.
But with the way things are today.. no way can it hurt you to just have one!

TheDoc 12-26-2006 04:32 PM

Is Canada saying Americans need passports to enter? I have been to Canada like 30 times and have never needed a passport (land or air), even when I worked in Canada. I just don't see Canada making a passport law with the Vancouver and Nigra Falls ports being so large.

As for Americans entering America.. Pfft, please.. If you are American and have a valid ID, they can't deny you entry, so fuck'em.
