My new NAZI Tshirt... WTF!?
I just picked up some sweet OBEY factory seconds tshirts at the swap meet.
I'm not really a t-shirt guy, but I love Shepard Fairey and these are really soft. So I like one of the shirts so much, I take a self portait in it. It's got a cool "Day of the Dead" skull on it and says "defiant since 89." I posted it online and someone said, "I'd be careful wearing that shirt..." wikipidia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Division_Totenkopf "Wal-Mart was selling a t-shirt featuring the Nazi SS Death's Head Battalion skull." http://www.debbieschlussel.com/archi...rt_neo-na.html Fuuuuuuck. I'd already fallen in love with the shirt. Can I assign new meaning to it? Or is it's history too strong? Or...did the Obey Company select it AFTER the Target controversy as a intentional statement? http://farm1.static.flickr.com/159/3...d2904c20_b.jpg |
nah man just shave your head, lose the pink, get a beer gut and some swastikas tattoo'd on your arms you'll be allrite

SS Division Totenkopf ("Death's Head") is also known as 3. SS-Panzergrenadier-Division Totenkopf and 3. SS-Panzer-Division Totenkopf. It was one of the 38 divisions fielded by the Waffen-SS during World War II. Prior to achieving division status, the formation was known as Kampfgruppe Eicke. The division's military record is infamous due to numerous war crimes and the fact that most of the initial enlisted men were SS-Totenkopfverbände (SS concentration camp guards).
The Totenkopf division was numbered with the "Germanic" divisions of the Waffen-SS. These included also the SS-Panzergrenadier-Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler, SS-Panzergrenadier-Division Das Reich, and SS-Panzergrenadier-Division Wiking. |
Say what you want about Nazis, at least they did their own thing.
|
the vast majority of people would have no clue what the skull means.
|
just show up at the next holocaust survivors convention wearing it, should be good for a few laughs right?

But it resent them for poisoning culture forever. |

but seriously, if you want to know if you should wear it, think about what someone who knows what that graphic is would think (group of holocaust survivors) of you. |
its a cool looking shirt I bet most wouldn't know that. Also neo nazis dont have pink hair ,so I think your safe from that assumption. lol

That is a very cool design... I would go ahead and wear it.
|
Don't know about the nazi shit, but OBEY's designs kick ass, I have a shitload of obey shirts and hoodies.
|
I'm not gonna wear it anymore.
If it reminded one person of the holocaust I would be horrified. |

anyway.... it was very insensitive... but i didn't really consider that i would be offending anyone until one day, in a mall in Anchorage Alaska an old man walked up to me with tears in his eyes and asked me how i would feel if i saw my family executed right in front of me as he did. i was speechless. he didn't say anything else.. he just stood there looking straight into my eyes, as i did his. for the first time, it really occured to me how all of the attention getting stupidity could affect and even deeply hurt others. in just a few seconds, he was able to teach me a very valuable life lesson about consideration and respect. i got it. he could see that i got it. i went home and i threw it away. |

To bad i am not allowed to wear it in my country :(
btw: stop crying ....its only a fucking skull. not one single guy would think about the ss when he looks at this shirt..not even in germany. ... hm besides the jews who cry at everything they can use to sue someone.. |
continue wearing it man
it looks cool nazis dressed brown all the time and god damn i love my brown shirts (btw. im german :1orglaugh) |
Awesome Logo and Awesome Shirt, Wear it if you like it, don't care what anyone thinks of you, what about the people who think you are a jobless punk because you have pink hair, do you care what they think, of course you don't, so why care all of a sudden what people think of you, I would think that you would not be a person to give a shit what other people think of the way you dress or look.
Well maybe I am wrong. |

sorry tassy but this is complete BS. why should we stop wearing clothing which meets our style only because it is connected (in a very far way) to what happend over 50 years ago. this tshirt is not offensive in ANY way. |
"As they had done with the Swastika, the Nazis simply adopted the Totenkopf from the historical tradition and used it for their own purposes, leaving it marked with a stigma that has continued to the present." <-- This is also from wikipedia perhaps the special interest groups out there would like to supress this historical fact as well? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Totenkopf
This is a very important factor here, It is not a nazi symbol at all, it is just as harmless as the Iron Cross that appears on a huge percent of clothing worn today by men and women alike such as west coast choppers et all. If you like the shirt , wear it with pride and do not let any special interest groups or individuals push you to do otherwise. |

exactly ! i agree a 100% even the salutation where they lifted their right hand to the "führer" was copied from rome and the emperors |
my jewish friend wears a black shirt with a white swastika sometimes... i've never seen him smile so much...

do that in germany and face a few years in prison.... |

or both |

I would never wear that shirt no. |
Nice t-shirt man!
|
It seems obscure enough, but don't wear it on your German tour --or to Tel Aviv.

Wear it.
It is just a shirt. |
Hey , is possible to buy that T shirt from the net?
|
Well the funny thing is now in Germany, even if you wear anti svastika/nazi symbols, you can still end on court beacuse people doesnt know symbols which you wear on your t-shirt(svastika in garbage, crossed svastika)
|
|
Don't you just love Saussure?

I've already had several people send me horrible stories about their families in response to seeing the shirt. I can't fault anyone for being sensitive. |

Sorry but that made me laugh... Hal - I personally had zero clue what the problem was with the shirt until looking at the links. I reckon most if not all would have NFI what it's about. Shirt looks good on you so wear it. |

i wouldn't think too deeply inot it personally, i highly doubt you'd ever run across anyone who would tsake notice and be generally offended. it is your own personal chocie what to do though, and if making the decision to not wear the shirt makes you feel better froma moral standpoint, well, god for you. do what you think is best. i personally would go on wearing the shirt, it looks badass to me..
