Holiday Depression ))-:

Well,

I thought I would be able to avoid it this year, but as always I have depression around xmas. Out of the last 6 years I have only got to spend one XMas with my family. I was in the Navy Underway most of the time during my four year term, last year I got to spend it with my wife's family, but now we are divorced as of 15 days ago and I am living in thailand. It took going to a Thai mall and hearing Xmas songs to get "the blues" but its here. I'll be ok as always, I know how to think of other shit, but if your with me, sorry to hear it, if not, I hope you guys have a great holiday.

I love Thailand, I really do, its just a "down" moment at the time.

I still got some friends here I am havin dinner with tonite, and I am cooking my own turkey on Xmas day. (Actually found one in Thailand) Happy Holidays everyone.

OK, this is gonna sound harsh, but sometimes a reality check for the RIGHT reasons can be a good thing ...

You need to harden the fuck up.

Your life does not suck. You get to choose where you live. You get to live in a country where others around you have nothing and you can afford to have what you want. Many struggle to get their bowl of rice while you get your turkey. You live in relative luxury in comparison to most of the locals. Your life is NOT that bad.

So miss your family, that is fine, but don;t get down about it

PERSPECTIVE is a wonderful thing.

Now if that sounded way too harsh, so be it, but I hope it did you some good to hear it.

Want to feel better about it all?

First TELEPHONE your closest firends and relatives that you cannot be with, tell them you love them, and wish them a Merry Christmas.

Then go for a random walk anywhere close to where you live in Bangkok, and randomly hand out US$20 notes to 5 little street urchins who know no better and have nothing at all to look forward to.

Why do I know this works?

When I lived in the Philippines and started to feel down and sorry for myself I did the EXACT same thing.

And guess what?

It worked ;-)

Have a very Merry Christmas, enjoy your turkey and smile about the best $100 you ever gave away in your life and ALWAYS remember that lives of people like us many others would die for. Our lives truly do not suck.

Thanks mate - hope it did not come across too harsh, but sometimes a kick in the pants is what one needs.

And I live by perspective - the WORST day of my life is still better than a million other chumps who would trade places with me for almost anything.

I NEVER lose sight of that and ALWAYS am completely grateful for the what I have and what I am able to do.

My life does NOT suck ;-)

:thumbsup

Keep the pecker up, big d.
Things on my end are turning titsup and is most very likely the beginning of the very end for me, but hell, life goes on.

Life is great then it deals a cruel hand which can last a year or maybe 10.

You just gotta turn the other cheek and do what you must to get you through your most unpleasurable times.

NEVER let shit get on top you and never lose hope that times will change for the better.

Been there, done that, and heading right back there after a 10 year break.

Loads of people get a bit depressed at this time of year, so you are not alone.

CuriousToyBoy's post pretty much summed it all up. Read over that, and just enjoy it.

Merry Christmas !!! :thumbsup

Get over it is the stupidest thing anyone can say especially to someone that is feeling down. All I can say is think of the people who care about you and yes try to call friends and family that helps a lot. Try not to be alone even if you just go out to eat and watch people.

Best wishes!!

SomeCreep 12-22-2006 05:59 PM

There is only one way to handle depression, drown your pain in alcohol. You will feel better after.

sniperwolf 12-22-2006 08:49 PM

i feel for you.. this season just makes me remember those people I love who can't no longer spend the special occasion with me.
