Fuck!

Last night somebody hit my car in a parking lot then took off. Did about a grand in damage....No security cams in the lot. :(

So, I called my insurance company today and asked them about my coverage for such a thing. I have a $1000 deductible so fuck reporting it and raising my rates...right?

Wrong.

According to my policy, if I don't report it then they can cancel me. But why in the hell would I report a grand worth of damage if the deductible is about the same?

So they can jack my rate at renewal time.

Fucked from the driver who hit me then fucked again by the insurance company.

Merry fucking Christmas to me. :321GFY

Fucking bastards.

HighSociety 12-21-2006 08:15 PM

lower it, mine is 200, the difference is not as much as you think and they never want to tell you about it either, I had to bring the car in so they could look at it and they took a few pics and that was it

Screaming 12-21-2006 08:16 PM

no pics? man..

JD 12-21-2006 08:17 PM

that fucking sucks man. I've been nailed a few times in parking lots too. Nothing like 1k in damage or anything but still total shit when people do that shit and take off like little pussies

WiredGuy 12-21-2006 08:17 PM

If you don't have a police report then what's the insurance company going to do, force a claim on you? I can only see them saying you have to report it only if there exists a police report, no?

I thought I only tapped it a little

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 12-21-2006 08:20 PM

That sucks. As expensive as it is to repair cars these days, parking lot owners should install security cams. It might not prevent accidents, but it would cause people to think twice about driving off and then facing hit and run charges.

sicone 12-21-2006 09:32 PM

insurance companies get ya coming and going

DaddyHalbucks 12-21-2006 09:47 PM

Insurance companies suck.

DaddyHalbucks 12-21-2006 09:52 PM

First, you suffer whatever loss you have.

Then, to get paid, you usually have to do battle with your insurance company (which is always better prepared to do battle than you).

Fuck that!

GAMEFINEST 12-21-2006 09:54 PM

that sucks bro

NemesiS876 12-21-2006 10:00 PM

It's actually a significant difference. And yes, I've shopped around.

baddog 12-21-2006 10:18 PM

Sorry, but how are they going to know anything happened if you don't tell them?

Years ago I worked for Wells Fargo in one of their corporate offices. I had a hit and run occur in the parking lot about 75 feet away from the front door and the security station. Oddly enough, the security didn't know about it and the cameras didn't capture it. I discovered it when I noticed that my car alarm had been set off so I walked around the vehicle.

I started asking various people around the office and finally one of them told me they saw a guy looking at my car while the alarm was going off. Then the guy got in a car and drove away. The person showed me which car it was.

So....I went back to the security office and had them check who's car it was based on the parking permit. It belonged to one of the managers. I turned him in for hit and run and the company did NOTHING about it.

He later admitted to the accident and paid me cash to have it fixed.

What pissed me off more than anything about that was that the rent a cops flicked me shit when I asked them to review the video tapes.

Why do they need to know about it if they are not going to be involved in fixing it?

avalanche 12-21-2006 10:32 PM

Sorry to hear that....not sure what the law is where you are but in California an insurance company can't raise your rate unless you are 51% at fault for the accident.

A few years ago a drunk driver hit both of my cars in front of my house and did about $10k of damage. Paid the $500 deductible and got them both fixed, had a rental car for 3 weeks, just a headache. Definitely reduce your deductible for next time....but it still sucks no matter what happens.

They don't and they won't if you don't mention it.

tony286 12-21-2006 10:50 PM

mattz 12-22-2006 12:31 AM

probably some fucking kids

Azlord 12-22-2006 12:33 AM

I think that if the accident wasn't causing while driving the car, your rate doesn't go up. I had the seat in my audi get rained on and ruined the leather. I called up insurance, and they said since it didn't happen while I was driving it, my rates do go up. State Farm incase you are wondering.

Jace 12-22-2006 12:33 AM

georgeyw 12-22-2006 12:55 AM
