WTF is up with "orhpaned" contacts and having to keep readding people on Trillian?

ICQ kept crashing and was a resource hog and that sucked balls so i switched to Trillian a month or so ago.

I have to keep adding people over and over again, contacts randomly get "orphaned", and finding contacts in my list is often a pain in the ass or literally impossible.

I have 732 contacts between ICQ and AOL IM ... what's the best solution to use these days that that runs more smoothly?

:helpme :helpme :helpme

I had the same problem... ICQ has a 600 contacts limit. When I deleted a bunch and went under 600, it fixed the problem of having to re-add contacts all the time.

Dude....after nearly a year I had the same issue with Trillian and could not fix it for the life of me. Go checkout their support forumn and you'll find thread after thread with people looking for answers and finding none. I moved back to the newest ICQ and that had it's own problems. Now I'm running 2003b and it handles both ICQ and AIM.

Arrrrrgggghhhh

so my choice is delete contacts (which i do all the time anyway) or reinstall ICQ?

THAT'S IT?

Mutha fucka!

:(

I have the same problem here. I cut down my list to below the critical mass level. Recently with new additions I went over the limit and now Trillian orphans contacts at will. Too bad it doesn't orphan the contacts more than X months old with no contact instead of bumping the people I talk to on a regular basis.

Trallian Astra is supposted to fix alot of these little problems, I dont know when its out though.
I found the Paid Pro version is more stable then the free one was, dont know if that had to do with something else on my comp though.

edit : I thought I had a fix, but I didn't.

There's others like http://www.miranda-im.org/ . I keep thinking about switching but nothing is wrong with my trillian install so not much of a point in doing that right now.

I had over 800 people in my contact list. Recently axed it down to 300ish. about 5 days ago I started getting orphans again.

Same result with basic and/or pro.

are icq's history functions better these days? That is one of the main reasons for me using trillian

LOL that's not the worst idea :thumbsup

I guess you just have to switch UIN's a few times per day?

I had the same problems until I turned OFF my local firewall (Norton) and that seemed to fix the problem. :2 cents:

anyone else?

jmk 12-21-2006 06:02 PM

I deleted a bunch of contacts and that helped

MaDalton 12-21-2006 06:06 PM

i use trillian 0.74 with about 550 contacts - no problems. and since it's already 5 years old or so it doesn't use much resources
