Offering Discount Prices to Certain Affiliates = Fucking Webmasters Over

I know this has been brought up before, but I've seen it more prevelant of late. Heck, I even have some sponsors that allow me to offer special prices. But I think when a major sponsor gives discounted prices to certain affiliates (review sites and guides in particular), it fucks over other webmasters.

I was talking to a friend who just so happens to join a lot of porn sites. He said to me "such and such review site has discounts on all the major porn sites, so I just go through their links when I want to sign up for a particular site". I saw a porn surfer forum that mentioned similar stuff about how if you'd like to join a particular site, go through such and such site because they have discounts.

While it's not a huge percent of the porn population that is wise, more and more surfers are. The more they realize that certain sites can get them into a particular site cheaper, the more it will take sales from other sites promoting them. I put no blame on affiliates, as I'd certainly take any deal thrown my way. But I think sponsors need to think carefully before offering discounted prices to certain affiliates. If you do promote a particular popular site hard, it's important to look and see if your sponsor is giving discounted prices to other affiliates.

What's your thoughts?

I think it is more in regards to sponsors allowing the webmaster to choose the price point..

Certain sponsors allow me to choose either a $1 trial or a $4.95 trial or no trial at all, etc,, If I choose $4.95 sure I lose if the surfer knows someone else has it for $1.. I was not aware of sponsors having special price points not available to everybody else..

Trials are different in my eyes. I'm talking about sponsors that normally have $30 membership fees selling for $15 instead to certain affiliates.

Why make one when you can get one in minutes with Review Wizard

I have actually turned down sponsors who want to offer my surfers discounted bc. I don't think it's fair to other webmasters.

Do you bitch about it when some retail store makes a deal with the distributor so they can sell the goods cheaper to the consumer?
Walmart can sell their goods cheap because they buy large quantities. Affiliates that can send a lot of sign-ups get similar deals. It's just business. The little guy doesn't have the same advantages as the big guy.

there was a HUGE thread on this a few months back....really heated too

Do you also think its unfair that some affiliates get higher pay-outs and better percentages than the "standard" affiliates? Just curious where you stand on that.

Personally, I don't care. People also say The Hun has destroyed porn. Porn has been paying my bills and the bills of many of my friends for several years. Trends change. If a sponsor thinks that they can benefit by giving certain affiliates special perks, then they're going to do it. Plain and simple.
