Fake or Real Christmas Tree?

I always use to bitch about fake trees, until I had kids.

I've joined the club, spent the $250 and will never have to buy another tree again. But it just doesn't have the same feeling or smell ...

Jakke PNG 12-18-2006 07:58 AM

Fake trees are a fucking joke. It's either a real one or no tree.

spazlabz 12-18-2006 08:17 AM

I used to hate artifical trees too, until I had 2 kids and 3 dogs and the clean up was a nightmare every day!

I have an artifical one that looks really good, is easy to set up and take down and no pine needles all over the floor or fire hazard.

When I was a kid we'd always have a real tree and even as a small child I didnt understand why we killed a tree then threw it on the curb, lol.
Fake is fine, and it'll be around for years n years.

Flymaster 12-18-2006 08:27 AM

ronaldo 12-18-2006 10:19 AM

We've been using a fake one for years but as soon as the mother-in-law decides she wants to spend a Christmas with us, we'll be buying a real one. She's allergic and with any luck, it'll keep her away.

ADL Colin 12-18-2006 10:19 AM

Same as tits. Fake.

wyldworx 12-18-2006 10:46 AM

I would rather a real one, but taking care of them is a nightmare! They make alot of mess and are prone to many diseases!

No tree..Santa just leaves lumps of coal

Tanker 12-18-2006 09:05 PM

get a real tree from a tree farm! they are good for the enviorment

Tanker 12-18-2006 09:07 PM

Am I harming the forest by choosing a real tree?
Definitely not! Christmas trees do not come from the forest! Almost everywhere in North America and for sure in Ontario, Christmas trees are grown as a crop on tree farms. For every tree harvested, there are ten more coming along, otherwise the farmer could not harvest each year.

Tanker 12-18-2006 09:07 PM

Is tree farming harmful to our environment?

NO! Christmas trees are, except for cultivated forests, the most environmentally friendly crop around. This is because a tree is harvested only after ten years. To ensure future harvests, ninety percent of the farm must remain in trees all the time.

Tanker 12-18-2006 09:08 PM

How are real Christmas trees beneficial to our environment?

Christmas trees produce oxygen and protect wildlife
Just one acre of Christmas trees produces enough oxygen to support eighteen people.
Just one acre of Christmas trees produces enough oxygen to support eighteen people. In the process, CO2 is taken out of the atmosphere, counteracting the production of CO2 resulting from human use of fossil fuels. Trees also act as air pollution filters and can remove up to 13 tons of airborne pollutants per acre per year. Christmas tree farms are havens for a wide variety of bird and mammal species including grosbeaks, sparrows, chickadees, foxes, coyotes, mice, voles, and squirrels. The "edge effect" created by a stand of Christmas trees next to a woodlot or an open field is known to increase wildlife species diversity.

rowan 12-18-2006 09:08 PM

I've been thinking about asking the local tree farm if they'll let us take the entire tree, roots n' all. They give you a saw and you choose and cut the tree yourself, so they wouldn't care about any extra work required... in fact we're saving them a bit since they don't need to remove the dead stump later.

The only problem is that they may figure out that if we buy a live tree we may not be back for a few years. :Graucho

rowan 12-18-2006 09:10 PM

Another problem might be that it outgrows our ceiling height. Didn't think of that, lol

BlackCrayon 12-18-2006 09:10 PM

SmokeyTheBear 12-19-2006 12:37 PM

I love real trees... can't bring myself to have a fake one...

LauraLee 12-19-2006 01:01 PM

salesman 12-19-2006 01:04 PM

we have for over 5 years the same fake tree, it saves time and money and is sometimes nicer than a real one.

Adult Search Results 12-19-2006 01:21 PM

fake for real

teh ghey 12-19-2006 01:22 PM

Fake.
Less chance of a fire, lessmess on the floor, on pain in the ass bringing it home then throwing it away.

lot 12-19-2006 02:52 PM

Fake, cos if every family gets a real tree imagine the scales. For real trees lovers there are parks.

GlydeGirl 12-19-2006 02:57 PM

I prefer a real tree, but my best friend gave us her fake tree a few years back and now we put that to good use every year. When that tree finally packs it in, we'll probably go back to real trees.

Mr. Romance 12-19-2006 03:01 PM

I love the smell of real, but the fakes look pretty good these days

Mr. Romance

madawgz 12-19-2006 03:02 PM

Fake is better. We don't detroy nature.

kristin 12-20-2006 11:13 AM

My whole thing is the fact that the fake tree looks way nicer than the brown selection we have here in Tucson, AZ. ; )

MikeB 12-20-2006 11:16 AM

Hi Kristin,

We did fake for a few years. Getting all of the branches unfolded, and each section correctly installed and wired never went trouble free. I missed the smell of a natural tree, so we've been keeping the fake tree in the box the last 2 years, and we've been picking up a natural tree. The kids like putting the ornaments on a real tree more than a fake tree. And if Christmas can't be for the real reason, at least make it for the kids :-)

tenletters 12-20-2006 11:35 AM

I've only had fake trees in my house but will get a real tree at some point. I did look at real trees this year and didn't see any that I loved.
