Cologroup - down

Okay this makes me totally mad now
one of my servers at cologroup went down 12 hours ago and I can't reboot it because Myles setup rebooter wrong and it doesn't work and I can't reach Myles or Jason
it's still down 12 fucking hours
now I go to check if it's up and I see that the whole cologroup network is down...like their main page and all my 3 servers

/usr/sbin/traceroute cologroup.com
traceroute: unknown host cologroup.com

very cool and nothing else works I guess their dns servers are down.
I'll post my mrtg stats for server that was down 12 hours once I reach their monitors (yes they are down too)

two words;

failover service

=

100% uptime

http://www.rawpussy.com

working like a charm, #36 on sextracker =)

As a webmaster that is effected by this outage...I still come to Cologroups defence. I have been with them for about 6 months. In that time, there have been 2 outages on my dedicated box. Compare this to my other dedicated servers that I have - 2 on the same network as Cologroup with the company that owns the datacentre and one with another one of the "Premium" bandwidth providers that advertises heavily on GFY. Cologroup wins hands down for the least amount of downtime and for responses to tech support issues.

Well, he's paying for it right now, isn't he? :)

Haha.. cologroup has failover service for IP connectivity and on individual dedicated boxes. Trust me, there is no such thing as 100% uptime.

hyper 07-21-2002 11:55 AM

thats why i host with www.phatservers.net
i am so happy i dont go through what you do

49thParallel 07-21-2002 12:03 PM

Once again I come to Cologroups defence. You can either listen to all of the naysayers out there that are bashing Cologroup, and yet have never hosted with them. Or you can listen to me...I do use cologroup...my sites are down right now...and yet I still have absolute faith in Cologroup. And yes, this is costing me significant coin right now .... my server on Cologroup runs a consistent 7 - 10 mbps...so for now my traffic is lost...but shit happens...Cologroup looks after it when it does...as I mentioned previously 2 outages for me in 6 months is acceptable and above the standard that you will receive from a number of other hosts.

To really put weight behind my statement...I also host with Carinet ...the owners of the Cologroup (and Phatservers) datacentre. I have a merchant account, so I could set up my own network for much less then what I pay Cologroup to do it for. And yet I pay Colgroup. Why, because on page to page tests, the folks at Cologroup have been able to tweak their servers to usually get about a 25 to 35% better resolve time. Same network..same servers...just better techs...that alone makes it worthwhile to host at Cologroup.

You might want to use a host that is multi-homed and several bandwidth providers and has more than one router. CandidHosting, ISPrime, TechieMedia... just to name a few.

Mr.Fiction 07-21-2002 01:21 PM

12 hours? I would be on a fucking plane on my way to the data center. Or, more likely I'd be dead of a heart attack. :)

12 hours of downtime?

Darkystar 07-21-2002 01:25 PM

bash - I host paysite server with xxxwebhosting...

Mr.Fiction yeah 12 hours I've just counted

it totally ruined my day :(

.:Frog:. 07-21-2002 03:02 PM

12 hours of downtime would really fuckup a toplist, cj, or TGP.
Your link would drop off everyones trade table. Unreal! Scary I had thought about hosting with cologroup.
Might as well go with likewhoa, isprime, blackseven, phatservers etc...Seem better. 12 hours of downtime - the owner should give everyone free hosting this month.

Kman - your with cologroup - how come your site was up when everyone else went down?

jimmyf 07-21-2002 03:11 PM

looks like they all are up now.

kinghost.com

cologroup.com

xxxwebhosting.com:thumbsup
