Jason-Cologroup-Please read
Jason...I know you are a regular visitor to this forum, so thought this might be the best way to get ahold of you.
It is 11:54 MST on Sunday, and it appears that your nameserver is down. My server is unreachable, and when a DNS lookup is done on any of my domains, or on cologroup, the domains cannot be resolved. I sent you this error report via email, but, if the nameserver is down, then the emails will not be able to reach you. Plus, since your website is down, I could not get the 1-800 tech support number for service. Hence, the reason why I am contacting you via this board. Thanks, and I am sure as soon as you read this, if it hasn't started all ready, you will get the servers up and running. Perhaps, if anyone else out there hosts with Cologroup, and you have the ICQ #, you could send off a notice to Jason. |
Uh oh, I just hit Jason on icq. This is really not good eh?
|
thatll be fixed here soon

Other information you might want to pass on to Jason or Myles...the problem is Cologroup specific. I have 2 other dedicated servers hosted out of the same datacentre with another company. There are currently no problems with these servers. And they are being fed from the same bandwidth provider.
Thought this might help Cologroup narrow down the source of the problem... |
Fletch..have you had any luck reaching Cologroup. If so, what is the verdict?
A question to be sought out later..if this is a nameserver problem, it would appear that both nameservers are being hosted on the the same server. A definate no-no, as this means that if one server goes down..then there is not a second back-up nameserver to complete the dns lookup. (This is just speculation...so don't take my comments for fact that both name servers are located on the same server. The actual cause of this outage could be something else completely). |
hey 49th parallel what domains do you have with cologroup? pls do tell
|
Shiat. I just sent a message to their DNS guy, haven't heard back yet...
|
WTF? Rawpussy is working fine for me, but none of my sites are. Are only some of the servers down?
|
rawpussy is in their LA datacenter, plus i have managed DNS with fialover serviec so if cogent ever takes a dump then all rawpussy traffic is sent instantly to my webair.com server in NY =)
|
I've been trying to get a new server up with them for days. I'm not getting any reply from them either.
|
Damn, my friend works for WebAir, I should do that too...
|
Sly..yes, that is strange...rawpussy is resolving...are you using the same nameservers:
ns1.cologroup.com ns2.cologroup.com |
It will be up in about 10 minutes
|
Kman...just saw your response re: different datacentre. Who do you use for your managed dns service?

The main router is out and being fixed. It is taking longer than I first thought to fix, but it will be up soon. |

i have 4 or 5 nameservers across the world, and failover service which switches a problem server to a backup server |
Thanks Jason. As the originator of this thread, I felt that it was only right for me to repost a response that I posted on another cologroup thread.
Once again I come to Cologroups defence. You can either listen to all of the naysayers out there that are bashing Cologroup, and yet have never hosted with them. Or you can listen to me...I do use cologroup...my sites are down right now...and yet I still have absolute faith in Cologroup. And yes, this is costing me significant coin right now .... my server on Cologroup runs a consistent 7 - 10 mbps...so for now my traffic is lost...but shit happens...Cologroup looks after it when it does...as I mentioned previously 2 outages for me in 6 months is acceptable and above the standard that you will receive from a number of other hosts. To really put weight behind my statement...I also host with Carinet ...the owners of the Cologroup (and Phatservers) datacentre. I have a merchant account, so I could set up my own network for much less then what I pay Cologroup to do it for. And yet I pay Colgroup. Why, because on page to page tests, the folks at Cologroup have been able to tweak their servers to usually get about a 25 to 35% better resolve time. Same network..same servers...just better techs...that alone makes it worthwhile to host at Cologroup. Thanks Jason...bsd68.Brian |
