After Google bitchslapped me I want to buy some software to help me out.

I'll second Arelis. It's a great way to organize your link building efforts. Plus it can check if recip links are up and if not has the ability to automatically remove the offending link from your page.

I would suggest using one of the free meta tag generators out there. Search on Google, there's no shortage of sites offering this and other seo type tools. After you have your meta tags all set up, submit your site to the engines.

There are so many programs and sites out there that will submit your site to the search engines, but the best piece of software I have found for this is HERE. The database currently contains 2245 search engines and directories. They have a free trial, so download it and check it out for yourself.

That looked useful from the specs and had a look - it's very hyped :pimp It has a foul interface and very limited unless ya happen to have a use for it with adwords. Same with a lot of software - there are good bits in each along with a load of junk - so gave up and wrote stuff with the most useful elements embedded.

Bottom line - no "software" is going to create rankings in engines - they are just tools.

avoid anything whose home page has yellow highlighter font and takes more than an hour to scroll to the bottom to get "today's special deal"

There are actually some good packages out there for the mundane seo stuff (which im sure have already been listed). If you want to step it up, you need to decide what else you require, and take a visit to rentacoder (unless you can code).

Basic version of it is completly free.

IBP/Arelis is pretty nice for organization and helpful hints

using seo software is like throwing money down the drain. If it was that amazing everyone would be using it. and only the first 10 results count in google ;)

There is no magic bullet. I would not trust any of the so called GFY "SEO experts", epecially those who advertise "black hat" techniques who are likely to get your sites banned.

what Equinox is trying to say i think, (or my personnal advice on this whatever) is that you don't need a software to do SEO, in fact, the "advice" the software give you are at best, usefull, or more than often exploited by everyone and their mom. Think outside the box and learn by yourself, there is no 100% sure thing in SEO, no one can absolutly know how the SE are working, we can just extrapolate from results we get from experiments. So, don't invest in a software, invest time to learn or hire someone who is good doing it.

dont think you should hire someone as chances are they will rip you off as they could do exactly the same thing they could do for their sites.

The only way to get SE traffic is good keyword on page, meta tag, css style, and many link on other sites !
