Fax machine spam?
as if its not enough that i get 2 or 3 credit card junk mails every day and 10 spam emails, over the past few months i've been getting fax machine spam. does anyone else get this? what a waste of paper. i get at least a few of these a week.
|
doesnt it list the phone number calling from?
|
I do get fax spam. Mostly something about "Invest in this shitty penny stock!" I get a few a week.
|
"to register for a free seminar please call....." it even has an opt out 1800#. chances are if i call the # to opt out there will be a salesman answering the call trying to sell me something.
|
I used to get tons of them, but there was a "REMOVE" phone number which automated and it removes your fax # from their database. Never got a single one since.
:2 cents: |
sue them for killing trees

although email spam is iffy from a legal standpoint, fax spam is definitely illegal....
|
Fucking becoming ridiculous, I get at least one every other day now! Fuckers! :ak47:
Penny Stocks, Cruises, Travel Plans, all kinds of shit nobody would need  |
Fax spam is against federal law. Check out http://ftc.gov and look into filing a complaint. The fax should have a header with the transmittin fax number.
|
So they are just scouring the yellowpages looking for companys' fax numbers ?
Is there actually a double opt-in for fax spam? :) |
My understanding is they use "war dialers" mostly to find them. Dial numbers at random (in sequence) whatever - and listens for the tone.
I have a number that is listed as a personal number, it blocks all OUT OF AREA and Private Calls. Within 3 days or so of getting this number I started getting junk faxes. I called the number and they had an automated removal system. The phone number is listed as a personal number with caller ID. It is illegal under federal law, although - last time I checked - there was no case law on this (It has been a couple years). I think you only get like $250 - $500 for someone doing this. A fax operator could challenge the law on 1st ammendment grounds. I doubt anything would happen to them, but hey - you might get a couple hundred out of it.... After calling the automated removal line - I haven't gotten one since. |
email spams are illegal but that means shit we still get em it goes with fax too law means shit so if ya hate fax spam do as i do
i put a modem in my comp and set it to receive faxes and it logs them all then i print only what i want and delete the rest or set my comp to spam the company that is advertising 1000 or more times after business hours so it wastes all there paper and ink and it soon teachers them there lesson :) same with spammers contact there sponcer...and yeah i know some sponcers love spammers but guess what the sponcers host and the hosts uplink DO NOT LIKE spam so contact the sponcer as well as CC to the host and uplinks host and make sure you point out the the sponcer that its gone to all these people that way the sponcer can answer to you or there host :) and i know as a host i can i ignore just a normal person but i cant ignore my host or there uplink cause they are not going to risk there business whole business over one clients need for cash from spam :) oh also contact the sponcers merchant account because if they get links to a spammer and blocked in spamcop or something like that they can lose so much in sales :) so take the time to fuck off a spammer even if you only pick one fucker a day to screw lol :) |

next thing you know car navigation systems will have spam popup

This is an old trick, but it's extremely satisfying. You need:
1. A fax machine (not a fax modem). 2. 3 pieces of black paper. 3. Sticky tape. 4. Fax number of the company you wish to annoy. Tape the 3 pieces of paper together end-to-end. Place paper into fax machine, and dial number of company you wish to annoy. As soon as the the first sheet of paper is out of the fax machine, tape it to the end of the last piece of paper. Then relax for a couple of hours. The paper will keep looping through your fax machine over and over again, sending a continuous black fax to whoever you phoned. If they are using a fax machine then they'll get a lot of black pieces of paper and an empty toner cartridge. If they've got a thermal fax machine then they'll get a lot of black pieces of paper and possibly a burned out fax machine. If they've got a PC collecting all the faxes then you'll just tie up their phonelines... |
