Anyone use WordPress to run Member sections?

Since I am so familiar with wordpress figure I might as well use it for doing member section updates, I mean you can schedule stuff for whenever, I have a gallery plugin being made so that will be easy... and you have all kinds of fun stuff you can do..

Anyone doing it already? Wordpress---paysite member section updates?

i guess it could work, not the optimal solution i would say though

I know script wise it's not the best, but for an amteur site like mine the only real script functionality I need is the auto update feature, and it lets em get notified on updates, can use voting plugin and other plugins.

Guess I'm thinking of using it cause I'm so used to updating WP based sites it would be easy to do, and also easy to skin fast instead of having to learn how to skin a new CMS and use it.

What is the most common CMS used in member sections?

I had that thought myself, but wasn't sure how to implement it. Have you put it into action yet? I'd love to hear how the project goes.

To be honest, as much as I love WP and suggest it to anyone that asks . . . .it is really too buggy for me to even consider running a members area of a paysite with it even if it could be done.

. . . besides, the MySQL processes would probably be out of this world.

well I never had any bugs on my WP sites.. but it would just be used like this:

create normal video pages and pic pages in your regular html/php and then the WP part of it would just be a post with some thumbs linking to your normal members area files.

This might be helpful.
http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugins/Restriction

One of them listed is:
WP-Members
Turns your wordpress blog into a premium content site. Block content based on user login. User data is maintained seperately from the main WP user database and registration fields can be changed from required to not required. There are 5 user defined fields and additional customizable settings.

well I use NATS with SQL auth, so don't need it for security, just need it to post the updates, really just WP posts with text which then links to the php files I already use for the updates.

Why don't you just use Joomla, at least that's a complete CMS and it can do everything Wordpress can, except that it actually has more functions built in to the default installation.

Interesting idea. Ghettorific but it works.

best solution ... but patches must be done on a regular basis for both Joomla AND any modules you integrate.

another nice unknown one that I use for members :

http://www.phpwcms.de/

But can it integrate into a billers script? If it can't pick users out of a htpasswd file then it's not going to integrate with a paysite setup properly.

I just use the getlinks_by_name functionality to have thumbnails to videos in a password protected area, it's not exactly full integration but the point of wordpress is to have a lot of SE friendly content so why put it behind a subscription barrier
