Toronto Blue Jays offer Wells $100.7 mil over 7 years.
For playing fucking baseball. Where the hell do they get this type of cash for one player? Hardly anybody follows baseball in Toronto anymore. These guys are getting paid far more then they're worth.
Crazy. |
He won't take it.. And I think it was closer to 120 million wasnt it?
|
Their attendance and tv viewership were up last year after they spent more money and did okay, so if they can spend more and do better they figure more people will watch which I think is true.
|
Blue Jays basically have an entire canadian market to themselves, most people in Canada cheer for the Blue Jays just based on being the sole Canadian team.
Just like anything you have to spend money to make money, I like the GM of the Blue Jays he isnt afraid to spend $, and especially when you are in a division with Yankees and Red Sox you need to spend $ to stay competative. |
I would think they can draw pretty well once they continue to contend. in the 90s when they were good they packed the place. Toronto can support them for sure. That said the salaries are getting crazy again after a few years of sanity it right back to crazy spending. But they obviously have the $$ to throw away.

Good points made. I used to love baseball. Haven't paid attention in awhile, but whenever I flipped a game on last year the Dome was pretty empty. I figured I wasn't the only one. I wish Leaf fans would stop showing up to Games so we can get some real players over here.
|
Wells should take that money. He really isnt' that good anymore and the Jays fucking suck. Take the money, play the game you love, drink your beer like you always do and pitch after drinking like you have said you done.
Enjoy getting rich, playing baseball, and drinking beer. What could get better? |

I agree they paid too much for him, but he's hardly washed up. The BIG thing about the contract I don't like is the no-trade clause. They'd have been better off locking him up long term and then trading him for a quality starter. :2 cents: |
that is nothing compared to these other salaries:
this contract slots Wells in behind Alex Rodriguez ($252 million for 10 years), Derek Jeter ($189 million for 10 years), Manny Ramirez ($160 million for eight years), Todd Helton ($141.5 million for 11 years) and Alfonso Soriano ($136 million, eight years). Half of what A Rod makes!!!!! |
Wells is a great player. The Blue Jays shouldn't be afraid to open up their wallets. They're owned by Rogers Communications, and they've got enough revenue to outspend the sox or yankees in a heartbeat.

David Wells?!
Ok, I dont really follow baseball anymore, but shouldnt that guy be in a wheelchair by now? how old is he?!?!?! |
