How the DirectNIC, 2257 issue affect TGP Owners

I've noticed the issue regarding the domain registrar asking a TGP to provide model IDs as evidence of age for sponsor hosted content. If I'm mistaken, please clarify it here but this is the way I understand it so far.

How does this affect most TGPs or anyone else using Sponsored hosted content? Will the sponsor need to provide all of it's affiliates with 2257 documentation including IDs for each model now also in order to be able to comply with the registrars inquiry?

Forgot the link, covering the McCain proposed law.

These laws are really fucking us over left and right. The online adult industry seems doomed for downfall, at least for U.S. webmasters. This is fucked up.

It will never work.

It's already working in at least regard to the registrar's ability to place a lock on your domain names, and shut your domains down if you don't provide them with the photo IDs.

So I'm assuming if you run a thumbnail TGP you now need to have photo IDs for every sponsor hosted gallery you use. At least, if your domains are with DirectNIC you do now.

i thought that was the law??? if you are a secondary producer, you are required to have all docs for every image that requires it. maybe i missed it.

It's time for more regulations since the industry is obviously failing to keep a clean house.

Is it? I wasn't aware of that. That kills the whole RSSThumbs, Sponsor feeds, etc.. if they don't provide all the TGPs with photo IDs and such too then doesn't it?

I guess you missed the fact that the link you posted its not an actual law ?

its laughable how a company such DN (run by lawyers) justify their action
with something that wasn't even approved.

Guys. As per the 2257 law, ONLY the DOJ and the FBI as appointed by the DOJ can ask for that information. Actually anyone can ask, but they have not right to. You only need present it to the DOJ or FBI.

crockett 12-13-2006 05:22 PM

That law is so fucking stupid the McCain is proposing..

"The legislation, drafted by Sen. John McCain and obtained by CNET News.com, would also require Web sites that offer user profiles to delete pages posted by sex offenders."

Yes how the hell is anyone going to know that "user14526" is a known sex offender.. Something like that is impossiable to inforce. Same with the illegal images and videos.

These stupid ass senators need to stick with what they know.. taking bribes..

Good point. Funny how every one around here getting their panties in a bunch over this drama shows that they haven't even read the actual laws themselves. :2 cents:

Curious why DirectNIC asked for a "state issued ID" when it's known many models and websites aren't in the USA.

fuhkinglou 12-13-2006 05:30 PM

Is there a list somewhere of adult friendly lawyers and accountants by state? I'd love to ask someone some serious questions locally about all this. (NYC)

Which one? The one's from FSC that say you don't have to.. or the ones from DirectNIC that say you do?

its the law already. a tgp owner is required to have all docs for every thumb on the site as i recall. the whole 2257 thing is something thats been ignored since the first version and doubly ignored after the second version. but yeah... you might have missed all these discussions, the panic, the analysis, the impact it would have, the discussion about RSS feeds etc. almost everyone is basically breaking the law right now.. which isn't a big change, considering that almost everyone was breaking the law before as well.

(2) A secondary producer is any person who produces, assembles, manufactures, publishes, duplicates, reproduces, or reissues a book, magazine, periodical, film, videotape, digitally- or computer- manipulated image, picture, or other matter intended for commercial distribution that contains a visual depiction of an actual human being engaged in actual sexually explicit conduct, or who inserts on a computer site or service a digital image of, or otherwise manages the
sexually explicit content of a computer site or service that contains a visual depiction of an actual human being engaged in actual sexually explicit conduct, including any person who enters into a contract, agreement, or conspiracy to do any of the foregoing.

They asked for a state issued ID or passport, which would cover the model not being from the US.
