noisy neighbours - time for revenge?

so i bought a place 2 years ago, finally moved into it in may. all was going well until the rental unit next to mine was filled with people who like to play loud bassy music at 4am, on a regular basis.

i have complained to them 4 times now, and they have turned it down each time, but they just turn it up again a few hours later :@

the police dont respond to noise disturbances in this country, its a job for the local council. currently i am waiting on a call back from them, which was told 3 days, weeks later nothing.

so now it seems my only option is to fight fire with fire. i will be leaving to live in thailand for two months maybe more, and im considering setting up my mp3 player to play subwoofer bass test patterns randomly every few hours, at extreme volumes.

thoughts? if i do nothing.. the worst that could happen is more noise. if i fight them, maybe it could get violent or my property could get damaged. im not sure what to do :( id like to contact their landlord but dont know how :(

You have an advantage there already; if these guys are partying on a regular basis until 4 am, its very likely that they sleep in late.

Now, if the rules are the same in the UK then here or similar, you can get busted for noise disturbance between 11 pm and 7 am (if Im not mistaken)

If you set the mp3 player to blast its music between 8 am and noon, you're probably nail them right when their in the middle of their 'night' and wont be caught because you are in right to do so in these hours. Still. I'd suggest you play a tape of hammers and chainsaw so they think you're just renovating in there... even better :)

I'm afraid you might just end up badly beaten by your crazy neighbours. :(

what if your sub-woofer catches fire and you're not there?

Wait until they are sleeping and start blasting your music every day

...and then you can sue them, make the buck and get their asses out of there :)

I used to live next door to students who were all about making tons of noise late at night. I had to be at work at a normal daytime job then, and it sucked.

I finally decided what was good for them was good for me, and I played deafening music, banged kitchen cabinets on the adjoining wall, etc, at about 6:30 a.m. every day.

They finally moved.
