Confession Time! Who's given fake diamonds? Did they find out?

I have a confession to make! Last year my wife wanted one of those necklaces with the circle of diamonds and as most wives do she got what she wanted. :winkwink:

Or so she thinks. With the quality of CZ's being so good these days and since I didn't consider this an heirloom piece of jewelry I went and compared the real diamond necklaces with the CZ's. WOW! What a price difference and if you buy a nice gold necklace the chances are NO ONE but a certified gemologist would be able to tell the difference.

To this day no one knows and yes I do have a confession to make....

I'll Never Tell! How about YOU?

Peaches 12-11-2006 11:16 AM

I'm calling her now......... ;)

If you're going to give the fakes - ADMIT IT!

Personally, I'm all about value. I would MUCH rather have someone give me a practical gift and fake diamonds because I think real diamonds are a total and complete ripoff. But you better tell me.........

Ectospasm 12-11-2006 11:26 AM

My girlfriend isn't much for jewelry anyway so I could get away with giving her fakes and I doubt she would care :D

woj 12-11-2006 11:53 AM

heh, that's cold :1orglaugh

O.K. I admit it! I gave her the fake but only after I took her and showed her both. With the money I saved I was able to buy her even more gifts which worked out fine! :thumbsup

She said it is the thought that counts and to this day no one knows! :1orglaugh

Interesting discussion. Own up fella's...

who 12-11-2006 12:59 PM

She only loves you for the diamonds. When she finds out they're fake, you'll find out the same thing about her love for you....

that's women, I'm afraid.

Elli 12-11-2006 01:04 PM

That's cold. If you don't want to get her a diamond, don't. Get her a lesser gem or something. But don't lie.

You speak the troof. As cold and heartless it may be... :(

If i meet her i will tell her :) For the sake of womans' solidarity.

Z 12-11-2006 01:29 PM

I'm really interested in these manufactured diamonds. They are as real as real diamonds and are about $5 /carat to the manufacturers.

The diamond cartels have been fucking us for three generations. I'm psyched about somebody fucking them back.

TondaB 12-11-2006 01:31 PM

I won't mention any names, but there is a certain someone that is well known within the industry that tried to give me a diamond necklace and pass it off as a real diamond. Needless to say it was a diamonique. As mentioned earlier, I would not have cared if it was a diamonique....it's the thought that counts. It's the lies I couldn't deal with:)

I will give you a hint...it was NOT Gabe. This was years ago.

BlackCrayon 12-11-2006 02:19 PM

i don't see why people give fake diamonds. its not the real thing is that expensive.

JFK 12-11-2006 02:35 PM

Quite a few people get ripped this way. In my mainstream business (buying and selling used jewellery) I see this quite often. They bring in a gift from a loved one,or mostly former, thinking its a diamond only to be dissapointed when told its not. A funny thing is, it seems like the relationship did'nt last anyways:winkwink:

OMG Jim 12-11-2006 02:50 PM

Man-made diamonds are here to stay. I'm sure that based on what the companies that are manufacturing these stones say that there will definitely be some ladies that don't get the "REAL THING" in the near future.

Diamond Nexus Labs gemstones are the most perfect man-made diamonds ever created. Their synthetic diamonds cut glass, they refract light into perfect ?hearts and arrows?, and they have superlative fire and brilliance. They closely match the composition of extremely expensive ?flawless? mined diamonds as their clarity and color are perfect on their respective scales. In almost all measurable tests, our lab created, man made diamonds match or are superior to natural diamonds.

In fact, Diamond Nexus Labs is so close to natural diamond that most gemologists require scientific testing equipment to tell the difference. Yet, for all their glittering beauty, Diamond Nexus Labs gemstones cost a fraction of what mined diamonds do, allowing you to own magnificent fine jewelry at a fair and realistic price.

The DNL Tiffany-Set Solitaire is the classic embodiment of simple elegance. The Tiffany Setting lifts the gemstone up into the light, allowing for optimal brilliance, dispersion, and scintillation that can be seen across a crowded room. Own the World?s Finest Diamond Simulant set in the most celebrated ring. Though Diamond Nexus Tiffany-Set rings are strikingly affordable, our solitaires are extremely high quality, precisely manufactured, and immaculately hand finished to assure a sparkling, beautiful presentation. A Diamond Nexus Tiffany-Set is a representation of your love that you will wear for a lifetime. Triple Guarantees.

Please tell me Brad Shaw didn't give you diamoniques. :1orglaugh

I actually wouldn't have a problem with a fake diamond or stone. As long as the gold/platinum is real, it looks good, and I'm not lied to about it, I'm okay. I've been known to lose really expensive jewelry a time or two, lol.

Diamond Nexus Labs is a scam, all they sell is a regular CZ, you can buy interlap CZs for about 15% of the cost and get the same thing.

The only CZ that is superior to others is the Asha, they can fool almost anybody because of the coating treatment they do on them.

fuzebox 12-11-2006 04:05 PM

I always wondered about that, especially a while back when I was researching engagement ring prices. I wonder how many people buy a fake diamond for the ring just because they can't afford the real thing? Your economic situation shouldn't prevent you from proposing to the one you love...

Peaches 12-11-2006 04:13 PM

Moissanite is also an option. Not as inexpensive as CZ but not as expensive as diamonds:

http://www.howstuffworks.com/moissanite.htm

But as Holly said, they have to be in 14KT gold or platinum. And AGAIN, the person receiving the gift HAS TO KNOW!! (and maybe get something that's not such a rip off pricewise as a diamond in the process ;) ).

When i got married i had a simple ring without any stones, especially diamonds, because i knew we can't afford it. I wouldn't respect myself if i'd wear fake. I wouldn't respect my husband if he cheated me that way.
When we will be celebrating 10 years of marriage, i will get my diamonds and be happy.

Moissante isn't really a good diamond simulant, while it performs better in lab tests than CZ it's quite easy to spot a moissante stone in real life because of its double refraction. If you want a good diamond simulant I would suggest Asha, you can get them at betterthandiamond.com.

Another alternative is Apollo Diamond, they can actually make authentic diamonds in the lab, however they seem to have some issues and have post-poned their entrance to the retail market for a while. Then again you will have to pay almost as much as for a conventional diamond.
