Mr.Fiction 07-19-2002 12:04 PM

If it's really him, that's great work by the police/FBI to catch him so fast.

Sly_RJ 07-19-2002 12:05 PM

Good, send him to Bubba and his friends. I don't want him killed. I want him raped daily for life...

nocostporn 07-19-2002 12:10 PM

aol news said it's just a guy taken into questioning... the fbi sketch doesnt even look like the guy they took in... hope it is though

on a sidenote,in all seriousness, what does it take for a case to become national news? Kids are kidnapped and killed every other day,but this case and that smart girl made headlines, why? is it just because its wealthy families or some shit?

Not trying to be insincere just something thats always been on my mind....

From what I understand, this girl was from a shitty neighborhood.

lawpal 07-19-2002 12:13 PM

I hope they got him, but it seems too easy.

The sketch came from an eyewitness 5 year old. Not bad for a 5 year old scared kid.

I'm wondering that myself. I want to know what happened to Jahi Turner, a little 4yr old boy who was kidnapped in a park here in San Diego a couple months back. Was followed by the news for a while, but never heard what happened. There was some speculation that his step-father had something to do with it since he just so happened to leave the boy alone in the park for 20 minutes while he went to get a Coke.

It seems like anything to do with rape gets extra attention.

It's what the media wants to pick up on. If they were to make headlines about every kid that was kidnapped, it would be straight 24 hr programming. They can't pick up on every single thing that happens. The other day in Texas, a woman killed her three kids and shot her husband but didn't kill him. She thought he was dead then pulled the trigger and killed herself. It's almost like an Andrea Yates story. It got no media attention at all.

Story

looks pretty close to me...

[Labret] 07-19-2002 12:31 PM

Even if its not him, at least they got another mexican off the street for the time being.

He had been charged with touching children in the past. But got acquited.

Funbrunette 07-19-2002 12:31 PM

This whole story is so sad. I was shocked when I read about it. I hope the bastard suffers and gets a good ass raping in jail! :feels-hot

CDSmith 07-19-2002 12:34 PM

I on the other hand hope they indeed have the right man. Nothing worse than persecuting and frying the wrong guy.

where's my remote - msnbc pronto.

jimmy3way 07-19-2002 12:53 PM

That's not the guy, the cops probably won't even catch the guy. Alll they did was round up every Mexican pederast in Orange Country and hope for the best.

Caroline 07-20-2002 12:30 PM

this is from the yahoo news if anyone cares....

"If Avila is charged with murder under special circumstances and convicted at a jury trial, he could become eligible for the death penalty under California law. Authorities have not publicly addressed that possibility"

"According to court records, Avila was charged in 2000 with one count of a lewd act on a child under the age of 14, two counts of lewd acts on a child under the age of 14 using force, violence or duress and one count of criminal threats.

He was acquitted after a weeklong trial that stemmed from the alleged molestation of the two 10-year-old girls, the daughter and niece of his then-girlfriend. The daughter, identified in court papers only as Catherine, reportedly lived for a time in the same apartment complex as Samantha."

Why this is news:

The reason this is news is because it looked like he was about to start a spree. The cops said that the way he left the body looked like a calling-card, which leads people to think he was planning on trying it a few more times.

It is horrible that it would happen even once... but it happens enough that it isn't major news every single time. However, a serial killer with that MO is possible the most unsettling possibility we'll see in a long time. Creepy shit.

cherrylula 07-20-2002 12:36 PM

Child molesters should all be put to death.

Fletch XXX 07-20-2002 12:37 PM

Hearing about this most likely more than some since its going on out here, its pretty horrible to hear about constantly, fuck that guy.

It was national news before they found the body and their theory that he would start a spree. The evidence that is stacking up against his guy doesn't look good for him. Fibers found on her body supposedly made a match with him, a light green car just like the little girl described, a similar composite sketch and the former molestation charge. Everyone deserves a fair trial, but I'll be quick to judge that he did it.

michaelw 07-20-2002 12:55 PM

:feels-hot

asshole should be put in jail forever to be raped over and over again

EscortBiz 07-20-2002 12:57 PM

Im happy they caught this asshole there is DNA so I dont think it will be a long trial specially if some guys tear his balls off in prison

This is the problem we have in this country...we all want someone to pay for these horrible crimes even if it's not the right guy...we just want vengeance on someone, fuck it if they are guilty or not....

There was a man in Vegas several years ago that was suspected of molesting a couple girls...local neighborhood vigilantes hunted him down and cut off his fingers with garden shears...then awhile later the girls confessed they lied...they had been skipping school and didn't want to get in trouble...this is why EVERYONE deserves a fair trial and vigilantism isn't the answer....

See how many times he is raped before he is killed with a soup spoon or some hand made weapon

Why? Don't you realize what crazy fuckers you live next to? Americans are brutal and easily fueled by assumptions and cheap propaganda.

There was a similar incident in Dallas...it involved one of those state websites that report the sex offenders address.

Anyway some local yahoos decided they were going to go and execute their own form of justice on a local pedophile....beat this guy half to death....but guess what. The joke was on them...the guy they beat up was some mentally retarded individual who moved in after the pedophile moved.
The sex offender database hadn't been updated and of course they didn't know the pedophile's new address.

Now regarding why this is causing so much attention. It has a lot to do with the circumstances surrounding this case.

Sure every day hundreds of children go missing...however in most cases these involve runaways, and non-custodial abductions.

In the rare case of stranger abduction you normally don't have so many witnesses to it, and the abductor doesn't do something so brazen as snatch the child screaming and kicking in front of people, or sneak inside their house in the middle of night and abduct them from their own bedroom.

And then I'm sure race plays a very important part in it all. In Fort Worth we had 2 cases going on about the same time.
One little white girl was abducted, body never found and she was all over the news.
The second little girl was kidnapped just around the corner from our house.
She was hispanic and the family was all sleeping on one bed next to a window due to the AC being out. The perp just pulled her out of the window while she was asleep next to her father...they found her body on the sidewalk at about 10 am a few days later...just lying there.
A neighbor who had been out that morning saw nothing, came out again a few minutes later and there she was.
This did not get any national attention, and hardly any local news attention. To this day I don't know what happened to that case, but they still talk about the little white girl Opal Jennings.
Damn...I even know here name...and I don't know the little Mexican girls name and she lived right around the corner.
Too fucking sad.

You can bring up cases after cases to support the wrongful prosecution, but this wasn't a matter of arresting him because some little girl picked him out. They arrested him based on dna evidence. The odds of people having similar dna are in the trillions. Of course we want someone to pay for this crime, but I'm not saying to sentence him if he didn't do it. I said "give him a fair trial," but I'm going out on a limb based on what little evidence is presented so far and saying that it was probably him. I would make a terrible juror in this case as I'm sure many would. Undoubtedly they'll have a hard time finding a jury that isn't biased because of what's been brought out in the media. I'm with you I don't want to see anyone go to jail over something they didn't do, but there are facts that are very hard to defend and dna is one of them.

ChrisH 07-20-2002 05:51 PM

Everyone deserves a fair trial, if to only protect the innocent.

There seems to be dna evidence that this dirt bag did this horrible crime.

He'll never make general pop, he'll be in pc from the day he gets put in jail.

When the trial is over I hope they gas this fuck! If he's indeed guilty.

What kind of sick fuck would do that to a little 5 year old?
