icing - you can't shoot the puck from your own side of center ice without it being touched by a player of either side, if you do and the puck travels all the way down the ice and crosses the red line that extends out from the goal line in front of the net and is then touched by an opposition player the whistle is blown and 'icing' is called, they bring back the puck for a face-off in one of the circles deep in your own end of the ice. the call is to discourage teams from just slapping the puck down the ice any time they are in danger, it would be very boring if you could just shoot the puck all the way down to the other end without the icing call.
faceoff - any time there is a stoppage of play for whatever reason there is a faceoff, the centers of each team at a standstill positioned nose to nose, sticks at the ready as the referee drops the puck dead center between them.
there aren't two leagues in the NHL - there are two geographic conferences - East and West. who are the best teams in the NHL? right now it would be Buffalo or Anaheim.
best player - they probably rank Jaromir Jagr of the New York Rangers as the best offensive player, Ovechkin of Washington would be up there, Crosby of Pittsburgh, Hossa of Atlanta
best defenceman would be Chris Pronger of Anaheim.
