plasma or lcd tv?
i am looking into a 60" plasma tv, or a 40" lcd.
what do you guys have? |
Plasma. They finally fixed the "bulbs".
BTW, your plug is ready. Let me know when you want go-live. I don't recommend 3:30 am, but I can fire at will. Saturday afternoon works for me. The first five plugs are free. The the next five are...free. Thanks again, Fris. :pimp |
LCD is way ahead of plasma now
the latest bravia models are the industry leader and they are way better than anything else on the plasma market, go see them in your local store amazing picture quality |
Buy the 58 inch Panasonic. The picture will blow you away, and the price is
relatively cheap! I love my set... http://www.plasmacity.com/PLASMA_DIS...PX600-LADY.jpg Review http://www.plasmatvbuyingguide.com/p...0u-review.html This tv is around 4000$/3500 euros. Im a moviebuff, and Ive seen tons of sets and this TV is the best by farrrrrr. LCD sucks ass. |

If you want super sharp picture, you need an LCD for sure, but if you are a moviebuff, get a plasma (better color, blacks). |
I am buying a new tv in january! Think it will be a plasma...
|
I have and prefer Plasma (Panasonic). I see more detail and a deeper black level. If you go LCD get the latest generation as they have just fixed the refresh rate so that motion scenes track satisfactorily. Samsung, Sharp & Sony are making good LCD's these days.
|
True the lcds look sharp, but the Bravias are pretty amazing
|
They're both good, but the LCD will still have double the lifetime of the plasma.

The one thing for everyone to consider when buying an LCD or Plasma tv is the fact that if your cable company doesn't have High Def service, your picture isn't gonna look the best. That's one thing that I wasn't aware of when I bought my tv. In my area, they offer like 16 high def channels which kinda sucks because Hi-Def FOX and ABC aren't available in my area. |
Unless you are a videophile, I think a decent LCD will do fine. They are way cheaper too.
Plasma has much better contrast ratios, but I'd say most average viewers don't care. |
LCD offcourse,much more quallity!
|
Go with LCD
|
I'm thinking of moving my 42" Samsung up to a bedroom and buying a bigger lcd/plasma as well.
Looking forward to reading some more reponses :) DH |

Sony makes good LCDs
|
I have a 37" Sharp Aquos LCD in my room, and it is absolutely beautiful (the TV and the picture). As for a movie "darkness", you can easily set the picture on the lcd to match a more "movie" feel. Maybe it won't be as good as plasma, but it's pretty damn close if you ask me :thumbsup
|
good reading, I am deciding what to buy too right now. I am thinking about a 51" plasma on the wall with small LCD's on the side for my bedroom. I want to program the LCD's to play pictures from my computer and the plasma for viewing
|
Plasma is better.
|
LCD's with LED backlighting are up-to-par to Plasma now in terms of quality, and with their superior longevity I'd have to go with LCD atm. Also Plasma is going to be phased out in the near future with SED TV's so unless you get a Plasma at a huge discount... LCD all the way.

Get LCD. Sony Bravia
|
I just bought a 40" LCD last week. I know nothing about TVs and was planning to get a plasma, since that's what everyone is always yapping about on here.
At every single store I went to, I was told to go with the LCD. Even when I was looking at a bigger and more expensive plasma, the sales people would show me an LCD that didn't cost as much and tell me it was better. I will say this, though- just standing in the stores and looking at them, the ones that had the best picture quality (to me), were DLP and the rear projection LCD. They're not flat panels so I didn't even consider them. Then, like an idiot, 4 days later I went out and bought this monster armoire that cost as much as the TV, to put the LCD in. It has tons of room and totally negated the necessity for a flat panel, so now I wish I would have given the other types a little more consideration. |
