Do You Have Kids?

So, how many webmasters here are parents? How old are your children and do they know what you do to put food on the table? Do you do any other work on the side to provide for your little ones or does this biz bring in enough cash?

I am unmarried and don't have kids...But I often think of what it must be like raising children and working in this industry. I would love to hear your :2 cents: as parents and webmasters. Thanks in advance... :thumbsup

jscott 12-06-2006 01:57 PM

proud to have 0 lovely children

Dagwolf 12-06-2006 01:57 PM

They know I'm in advertising and that part of my work is for adults only.

I have mainstream sites that they know about and are even able to help with once in a while.

Strickie 12-06-2006 01:59 PM

I don't have any kids, but if I did, I would tell them I was in advertising like Dagwolf said.

martinsc 12-06-2006 02:00 PM

Awesome! Happy Bday to that little guy

Tam 12-06-2006 02:03 PM

I have 4 kids, and they know what they need to know as is appropriate for their ages. They are 8,13,17 and 22...... the older 3 know what I do and the youngest knows that I am working with adults only stuff, but doesn't know the extent of it. This is my only income and how I support my family.

boneprone 12-06-2006 02:03 PM

I have a 1 year old boy...

He will be the new leader of the BP4L in 17 years from now.

ADL Colin 12-06-2006 02:03 PM

Two kids. Sixteen years old and 16 months. The oldest must know what I do since she asked my ex what buildinganempire.com is. We've never discussed it though.

Two kids, 9 and 7. Both are too young to know what I do other than working on the computer at home.

The only real concern I have is having the parents of my kids' friends find out what I do. Not for me, I could care less, but I really don't want to explain to them at this age that they're not allowed to play with so and so because their parents think Daddy is a bad man.

rob34 12-06-2006 02:08 PM

I do have a child....who is 5. I'm glad that he doesn't know what i do as a Webmaster. Or what I do as Talent. Maybe when he is older and accidently finds one of my d.v.d.'s then I guess we'll have to have the talk.

No shit. How the hell did that happen? I used to be a young guy in this business ;-)

StuartD 12-06-2006 02:10 PM

I have a boy who is 16 months old but the size of a 3 year old. He's going to make me rich when he joins sports.

selena 12-06-2006 02:12 PM

I have the manchild and the munchkin, 19 and 10 respectively.

The oldest knows what I do, the youngest just knows that mom works on the computer.

I am fortunate to make enough to support us doing this and nothing else.

pornguy 12-06-2006 02:21 PM

I have a son who is 18 months old, and can not keep his hands off the keyboards. We are careful not to let him see the images, and have even gotten him his own laptop. A real one. He loves it, and types like crazy. Now if I could just figure out what bfhdiwbfha f means.

LadyMischief 12-06-2006 03:10 PM

We have three children, ages 8, 6 and 2, and no they don't know what mommy and daddy do. They won't know until they are MUCH MUCH older. All we do is the adult biz. :)

Ya know, I didn't even think of that. That's a very good point. I can't imagine how other parents would feel if they knew. Some people are very uptight as we all know when it comes to our biz. Let's hope you never have to go through that.

E$_manager 12-06-2006 03:23 PM

My daughter is 5 and a half. She knows i am sitting in computer all the time - it is called - work. What i do does not care her.

Unfortunately (or maybe not actually), I say that having experienced it once already. The kids were only 2 and 4ish, so it was much easier to explain it away that time, because it was only the daughter of my wife's friend...not really THEIR friend. But I'm certainly much more aware now that our kids are in school and will be associating with those kids for the next 10 years.

If you do your bussiness at home, they must be glad that mother and father are always at home.

Well, that sucks, but at least it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I admire the fact that you're thinking so far ahead into your childrens futures. It really makes me think of what I need to do when I become a parent. Thanks

dakota1358 12-06-2006 05:51 PM

Four kids 3 boys age 14,7,2 and a girl age 9

sicone 12-06-2006 05:53 PM

I have one son, he is 8. At his age he doesn't need to know the details of my job, as far as he's concerned... he tells people I work on the internet, and thats fine with me.

madawgz 12-06-2006 05:54 PM

i dont have any kids....yet :)

BlackCrayon 12-06-2006 05:58 PM

i don't have kids but i do worry about what i will do when i have them. i wouldn't want them walking in when im editing some video or whatever. i think maybe i'll get an office then. though it kinda sucks because working from home gives the advantage of being able to watch over the kids.

escorpio 12-06-2006 06:05 PM

I have an 18 year old son so it's not a problem.

Star 69 12-06-2006 06:08 PM

I have no kids, to early for me, I am only 23 yo

Sharky 12-06-2006 06:09 PM

I have a 6 yo and a 1yo. They know i work from home building websites. Thats all they need to know...

Mr Pheer 12-06-2006 06:16 PM

proud parent of a 7yr old son

we have great times together :thumbsup

as far as my 'job' - he just knows that dad works at home and always seems to have cash in the pocket and has the coolest videogames

I dont hang out with pornographers or people in the industry or run off to conventions. I just do what I do, which thankfully doesnt involve working with content most of the time... just coding and thinking up new ways to market some dating crap or whatever

WiredGuy 12-06-2006 06:25 PM

No kids here.

Just a cute 2 year old boy here.

fuhkinglou 12-07-2006 09:02 AM

An awesome 3 year old. Currently trying to get the kid into Pre-K. Finding a school for your kids in NYC is insane. We're on like 5 waiting lists.
