You want to buy me one for Xmas. Awesome.

See ya in Vegas.

L-Pink 12-06-2006 02:30 PM

If you have ever owned a retail business and experienced first hand the high "discount rates" ... delayed payments and shitty service, you would do other merchants a favor and use Visa/MC.

mattz 12-06-2006 02:38 PM

thanks dude!

Sick Bastard 12-06-2006 02:46 PM

you definitely will not even come close to buying one.

I can't even get in to buy the prizes that they have thousands of. oh... and make sure you have an American Express with $5 G's avail. That car won't leave home(page) without it...

SB

DaddyHalbucks 12-06-2006 02:54 PM

Your Amex has a limit? I thought their big thing was that it didn't have limits. Am I confused here?

WiredGuy 12-06-2006 03:58 PM

Is this for real? I'll take them all.

KRosh 12-06-2006 04:00 PM

dig420 12-06-2006 04:12 PM

The marketing worked on me, I just applied. Looks like fun trying to get one.

MandyBlake 12-06-2006 04:14 PM

yeah i got that in my mail and i've been checking the deals everyday.
they have some good deals on there.

DWB 12-06-2006 04:18 PM

I will sell any of you one, right from Thailand for $1000.

Or maybe it's a baby alligator. Not sure, but they look cool and there is a little zoo not too far from me. You can birth them there and hatch the eggs in your hands, pretty neat. I'll just slip a few in my bag as they hatch...

Webby 12-06-2006 04:18 PM

Jeez... *anyone* and their dogs can buy the lumps of metal - that's not the point. Ya think AMEX ran out and bought some vehicles to just "give away" for $5K each?

It's a promotion - you know, one of these things companies get benefits from? Then the lucky "winner" gets 'presented" with a car and their face plastered over Amex ads and other bullshit stuff - then stuffed for $5K extra on their Amex card :pimp

Suppose it appeals to folks who need something to make other asses appealing to them :)

PS Worst example ever was another Amex promo awarded to the "top Amex spender" (duh?). The prize was a vacation at some premier Florida hotel resort (original). Knew the winner of this "award" and it cost him more than Amex ever paid for the hotel (they only paid a basic amount for rooms - no extras). Asked him if he then charged his Amex card for all the extras? Of course :1orglaugh

Now that sounds more interesting DWB :)

Can I just pay you cash instead? Sounds like a nice profit center instead of a depreciating asset :winkwink:

No one trys to test the limits, but I have....

Heh, I got into a conversation with them once. Went something like this:

Me: "So, what's my limit?"

Them: "You don't have one, sir."

Me: "So, if I bought a mansion on my card, that'd be okay?"

Them: "If we approved it, sir."

Me: "So, there's a limit."

Them: "Not necessarily, sir."

Me: "So what's the limit where it wouldn't get approved?"

Them: "You don't have a limit, sir."

Me: "ARRRRRGH <hang up>"

YES , there is an unspoken limit, depending on your spending and payment habits:2 cents:

hehe... nice attempt at sales spew edgeprod.

They got to have a credit rating and prob based on previous spending, what is known in the background and only old crap they can find to assess their victims etc. Don't use Amex anymore on principle, but used to, and prob the largest transaction I had was about $60K something (about 30K UK pounds) for a hotel/conference bill - was a matter of paying the hotel by check or a card, - so thought I'd play with Amex. Oddly, the transaction went thru OK - tho they never knew me from Adam (hardly ever used the card).

Oddly, I was just talking to someone on the phone about this very thing.

I was having a problem with a bank in Canada, getting some funds from the U.S. wired up for a real estate purchase. Amex met me at the bank with a CHECK for a cash advance against the card account.

The customer service in that case was amazing, I have to say. The guy brought a bottle of mid-level champagne as a "surprise" gift to celebrate the purchase, too. VERY classy stuff.

Suppose you got to give them credit for performing when it's relevant - and trying to do the personal touch and keeping up to image they use as marketing on the front end :thumbsup
