Fox news is saying he is dead...

But the Oregonian is reporting he is alive...

Oregonian is restating.......

Saying he was found.. But the condition is not known.

cnn is saying he is face down in the snow :disgust

I'm crossing my fingers that the alive report is the right one. I have been reading this story as it unfolded, and it was one of those that stuck with me.

Well over a week in the snow..... Amazing his wife and kids made it.

He was leaving a trail and everything as he hiked along for rescuers..

As soon as i heard they were finding his clothes i figured hypothermia kicked in and he would be dead.

Exactly..

Mixed thoughts on this..

One being he was getting hypothermia and got the false sence of warmth that happens before it sets in..

The other being he took extra clothes and left them as a paper trail for searchers to find him.

He has been leaving not just his pants, but his daughters and wife's clothes like a skirt, parts of his map, and articles of clothing.

Hope hes a live as well. If he had stayed with his family he'd have been better off but hindsight is a great thing.

They stayed still for one week... Him, his wife and children..

They did EVERYTHING right..

After one week and no rescue in sight he had to make a judgement call and leave to look for help..

After 1 week of staying put he knew he had to TRY to do something......

he had to do what he thought was best, I would of done the same thing but probably left before a week was up.

Poor family. This would have made a great holiday season, feel-good story.

If there is ever a good reason to die for a man, I suppose dying in an attempt to protect or defend your family would be it.

The one major lesson never learned is "do not leave your car."

All searches begin by air and obviously follow the roads. Ground searches start at the abandoned auto. If your car is any color except white keep your roof clean as possible.

That is terribly sad. Don't leave your car is the key. As a man it is hard to not want to move forward to save your family. If he could have just made camp at the car, started fires at night with the cig lighter if it worked. It is very sad.

Damn. Glad his wife and kids got out but so sad that he didn't make it. :(

damn that sucks....on the news last nite they saw a lot of bear tracks around his tracks

even though he died i think he made the right decision at the time. he stayed put waiting for help for a long time. you gotta make a judgement call. sit and die or try and find help.

it's easy to point out what he should of done when it's all said and done. but the wife and kid could of very easily been found dead in the car. then what was the right call?
