So does my new I.P. black list site suck?

Just launched it today http://www.forumblacklist.com

It's a PHPBB forums I.P. blacklist service. To help block forum spam bots.

What u think? :)

Then Occam's razor would dictate that BoyAlley's Ip will be in that sites logs several times a day.

Looks like a useful resource, but you're pretty free with the wildcards... most of the entries block 256 IPs.

(What's with the 66.*.66.3 entry?)

Evil1 12-04-2006 09:24 PM

they use proxies, theres thousands of new proxies every day, pointless task.

use the word censor and ban em with *@domain.com. they go away after a while

Not sure about that one either, probably a typo when entered to the blacklist.

I can see it doing some good down the road but for now adding each i.p. is a pain. Probably will need to have a tool coded that will enter the i.p. into the database or a PHPBB plugin that will connect to the list in real time.

Damn, I need some skills... i guess I need to hit up machinegun

woj 12-05-2006 12:14 AM

decent idea, but probably better way of doing it would be to crawl proxy lists daily and just add them to the blacklist.... and then write a plugin for phpbb/vbulletin/wordpress/etc, so it fetches the list from your server automatically... (or something along those lines)

You've got 69 entries in your list

I've got 348 in mine (all with VERY good reasons)

Unfortunately the server gerbils won't let me share. :helpme

sorry, i first had this idea in 01-02....& it doesn't work

the lists get too large & start affecting load times/cpu

I realize that is not perfect solution but first block the last numbers with a .* will keep the numbers down. then keep is revolving to filter out the open proxies from the permanent proxies. I figure start now perfect in the next couple years. Also I seen a plug in too block all dns servers from spam lists, so that plug in could play in with a list like this as well. I don't want to make any money off of it so anyone can join the project is interested.

Easier to block proxies (their ports) and use validate tool.

I think some search engines use proxies though. hmmm I'm not committed to this so I could dump it but it might be good.

You don't have to block surfers and SE using proxy, but you can block proxies from form submissions. I.e. force them to submit with real IP.
